RE: NIT
It appears to me that a 6th seed is about where we should shake out. I'm also wondering if geographic considerations will come into play in the "first 4 out" first seeds. It has in the past.

Yeah, they are in the top 50. Wouldn't benefit our seeding at all.

Hope for a 1-8 or 2-7 or 3-6 with Illinois, because they can't host...Assembly Hall is under renovation. That would mean a home game for the Tribe if matched up with them in the bracket02-13-banana

Ah yeah, I assumed Southland would be a low RPI...guess I was being a bit elitist.

That actually happened in 2010, the same 1st round game night where we played the Tar Heels. Stony Brook was an 8 seed and hosted Illinois. I'm not sure the problem at Illinois that time.

That would be a nice opportunity for W&M to host a Big 10 opponent.

Looks like ODU just punched their ticket to the NIT. Barely on the bubble and lose in their first game of the CUSA tourney.

In 2010, we were a lower seed than UNC (which was clearly a gerrymandered seeding considering W&M was one of the last schools off the bubble, but that's an argument for another thread/time), and the Dean Dome was under construction. But that was no barrier either, as UNC was somehow allowed to still host the game at the Charmichael, which they hadn't used for a men's game in over a decade.

So something tells me that if the aforementioned Illinois matchup comes about, Illinois will still be able to use the local student gym or perhaps the YMCA to keep the game local.

Hey man don't knock Carmichael. That was the coolest and most unique atmosphere I got to go to while in school. That place was absolutely rocking and the game was awesome (despite the loss)

ODU lost today to a terrible Middle Tennessee team and are out of their tourney.

Will we see them in the NIT?

See the past few posts. I guess we'll find out.

NIT
I was there when we lost to UNC. But in that first ever NIT appearance, did we win a game? Or is "first ever win in a national tournament" something we can check off our list this year?

We lost to VT 85-79 that year. A win (or two or more) would be a great thing.

Two more wins to get to 20 D1 wins would be great.

RE: NIT
Best option would be to have ODU and Richmond in the same bracket so we are paired to play one and then the other if we can beat the higher seed. Need to win 3 games to play in the Big Apple!

Wouldn't mind ur/odu for revenge & state bragging rights. I'm excited for whichever bcs team they match us with. If the Tribe can somehow respectably defend and rebound, their offense could cause problems. Bcs teams generally don't face our style of offense. Opponent's ambivalence and lack of prep time could benefit the tribe

RE: NIT
Another bracket (there are three of these out there) has us playing at Stanford, 8 vs 1 seed.

Personally, I find this more appealing then rematches with teams played during the regular season.

RE: NIT
I just don't see how we end up an 8-seed any more, with the other conference auto-bids being stolen by lower seeds in the last few days. 7 seed seems much more likely. The NIT has been reluctant to replay regular-season matchups in the 1st round in the past, so I'm not sure ODU or Richmond is going to happen, at least not in round 1.

I know we're all disappointed in how the tournament ended but it is just so very nice to be talking about Tribe post-season basketball in any sense!!
