Re: NIT
NDSU up with about 3 minutes left. If result holds, SDSU holds the summit league NIT autobid. They are also about 20 spots lower rpi wise. Should be enough to bump the Tribe to a 7th seed.

Didn't realize that's how the NIT worked. I'm surprised/impressed our athletic department has the cash to do that

My guess would be that Jim Kaplan has financed/guaranteed the support necessary for Driscoll to make such a statement. The Kaplan family has done more than anybody, except for Tony Shaver, to bring Tribe Basketball to the present state.

RE: NIT
Don't see us having any chance to host a game. Seeding/ranking will be predetermined using the NCAA selection committee list, then teams moved to regions. We will not be a 1-5 seed, so, the only chance would be for a higher seed to get upset in the first round, or the oft chance that a higher seed had a conflict at their venue. I'm more interested that we at least have an opening game within reasonable driving distance to go support these guys, even if it is ODU or Richmond. Used to be driven by ESPN and the NIT's need to make money to survive, but the NCAA 10 year buyout changed that structure.

RE: NIT
What I hope for is that we get matched up with a team from a power conference who really feels like they were screwed out of an NCAA at large bid and shows up for our game with little emotion. These teams are low hanging fruit in the NIT first round because they have a hard time getting up for the game. Of course this only works if we can turn our NCAA disappointment into a true excitement and enthusiasm for the NIT.

And we should be. This is not some tournament that you buy your way into. It is older, I believe, than the NCAA tournament. I still remember the days when the entire tournament, while spread over several weeks, was played at MSG. Can you imagine the TRIBE playing in New York City on ESPN!! There is no sense playing in this thing if we do not dream big.

The "Bracket Project" updates the NCAA and NIT projections daily. Knowing we are an auto, fun to follow. They show the projected teams, seeds and even the full bracket.

For today, they have W&M as a #8 seed (SD State is a #7) - we are matched at #1 seed Miami FL. Seton Hall vs URI is the 4/5 game in our block.

RE: NIT
I wonder how they come up with the seeding. It must be based on potential for home games/$$ and not be rooted in rpi. There isn't a team in the summit that is sub 100. W&M was around 90 last I checked. SDSU was around 111 before the loss yesterday. I don't get it.

RE: NIT
Since the first 4 teams out of the NCAA tournament become automatic 1 seeds in the NIT, it is unlikely that either ODU or Richmond will make the #1 seed. If we are a seven seed, then a match up with them is possible depending on how they do in their tournaments.

Shame St. Francis lost in NEC final, we all share their pain as the group stays at 5.

Miami gets home games for the, NIT it is not because they are a big draw at home for basketball. They only drew 5k for a then #2 undefeated U. Va.and outside of unc all other ACC teams drew worse crowds. I would be willing to bet W&M would draw more for a home game, but The U is a known name and ACC.

I wasn't aware of an official rpi. I got my info from:

http://realtimerpi.com/rpi_Men.html
(Tribe at 91 and SDSU at 112)

Also found
http://rpiratings.com/mensrpi.php
(Tribe at 88 and SDSU at 93)

Which one is right? Most all the rpi formulas I found online had the Tribe higher.

Your right no official site. Looks like the ESPN RPI was used for the 95 W&M vs 97 SDSU. I use the CBS Sports site which has us at 94 and SDSU at 93:

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketba...tty-report

When this close think they will use match ups for seeding.

We should cheer for the teams we played to keep winning as it will improve our RPI!

Live-RPI.com does up to the minute with the completion of each game, but it's a predictive to represent RPI at the end of the season. At this point it's pretty close but early on can be off. Realtimerpi.com often takes a day or two to update.

I think that number is updated on realtimerpi.com. It had SDSU & W&M trending down and NE & NDSU trending up.

RE: NIT
There are 5 teams left that can lose in the Conference Tournament and have lower RPI than us. They are:

Albany-American East
Montana-Big Sky
NC Central-MEAC
Texas Southern-SWAC
New Mexico St-Western Athletic

I personally would like to see us play at either ODU or Richmond since both are winnable games. In some ways if they could get a #1 seed by being the "first four out" that would give us a match up against an easier opponent in round two playing the 4/5 seed. Just a thought as ODU is on the fence as a "first four out" as might Richmond if either do well in their tournaments!
