I cannot comment here on Barber, other than to say that he was not a candidate for Rice.

Right now, Scott Filip has the 5th best jump (23' 2¾").

Everyone can follow the event, jump by jump, by going to the results link, clicking on the Heptathlon long jump, and then clicking on "Field Series".

Although he improved his length in his third jump, Scott's now down to 7th: 7.20 meters (23' 7½").

But another Owl -- Kennesaw State Junior computer science major, Bilal Abdullah -- is off the a hot start, with the best 60m and long jump results so far.

Compared to Filip, how well does Bilal typically do in the other events?

Their best this year in the long jump is 7.17 meters. Tied. So, while Scott's 7.20 was a season best, that 7.65 by Bilal was a massive improvement.

The men's pole vault has begun, but it will be awhile before Chris Pillow does anything, because he is passing to 5.40 (17' 8½").

The bar is at opening height, 5.20 meters (17' 0¾"). Three vaulters are out already.

In the men's long jump, the competition is in the 2nd round of jumps, with Ben Pressley in 8th place with 7.18 meters (23' 6¾").

All competitors get 3 jumps, with the top 9 advancing to finals, with 3 more jumps, going in reverse order of their standing after the first 3.
