I guess if no one is picking your school, start pimping it to see if you can get some votes. 05-stirthepot

The winter is intense as in upstate NY intense at timesand one year there was more snow in Boone than in Anchorage, AK I think. And the wind, let's not forget the wind. But it is not a long winter like Minn or such. It is just a few weeks of the real intense stuff and the plus side is one can survive without air conditioning in the summer months. THAT alone would not make winter so bad.

I'm from Anchorage and I'm sure there's more snow in Boone MOST of the time than there is in Anchorage in the wintertime due to the fact one week it's below freezing and the next it's in the 30's & 40's. This is why we had to import snow most years for the Iditarod Trail race. I believe they've now moved the starting line up North of Anchorage about 70 miles (or so a friend recently told me).

Many assume Alaska is cold all the time but if the weather was so miserable why would more people live in the Anchorage Metro than in Birmingham and about as many as New Orleans has?

I always thought that Anchorage and more so Fairbanks had the just below freezing temps that kept a lot of water in the air that did make a lot of snow most years.

And yes the dog race was moved about 300 miles north due to lack of snow according to the NPR report last weekend. Trucked in enough snow to have a ceremonial race in Anchorage and then the raced moved north.

Often true in Anchorage. It snows like crazy but it melts. Then snows again. Then melts. Repeat, repeat, repeat...

Fairbanks, OTOH, is below freezing most of the wintertime and the snow sticks throughout the season.

NOTE: Thanks for the Iditarod update!
The updates are free. You may ask how I make money. One word - volume.

I think the race is 1/2 over as of today.

I guess picking your school because of the beaches 45 minutes away is pretty funny stuff. Food, festivals, culture can be topped in many other places including his school!03-lmfao

RE: Monday Random Question: If I Could've Gone to Another SBC School...
I found out about GS after my cousin invited me down to Statesboro for a concert my junior year of high school. Half a year later I found out about Texas State when they did that thing in football to GS on tv. By that time I had already been accepted into Southern, so I had developed a slight allegiance (which only increased once I got on campus). Of the current members, I didn't know of anyone else that is currently in the conference except Troy(only knew of a bunch of their little campuses), ULM (UGA punching bag a time or two), and App State (cool name...didn't know anything about the school).

All that being said, if I had known of all the schools in high school, and had no allegiance to Southern yet, I think I would have had a good time at any of the schools. I'll choose Texas State like everyone else. It's apparently THE place to go to college in the Sunbelt.
