RE: BAKER RETHINKING HIGHER EDUCATION IN ILLINOIS
How about bringing the Grotto back and creating a joint educational venture between NIU and the Grotto? It could be called the NIU Academy of Sexual Studies (NIU ASS). The Grotto would get a portion of the tuition revenue and the ASS would be able to use the Grotto's world class equipment and supplies for the educational venture. To keep the venture somewhat separate and keep the State away from the Academy's hard-earned cash, all tuition payments can go directly to the Academy. I'm sure students would be happy to pay their tuition through the ASS. This could work. I can just see the T-shirts now.....

i like that, especially since ECC is my backyard. Its a nice hedge for those who have a chance of wanting to leave NIU due to unforeseen circumstances. Now, my question is why would an underclassman go to NIU at a greater price when they can get all the gen-ed classes they need at a fraction of the price with a guarantee to be able to transfer all of them. Just food for thought.

NIU has very little reserves, enrollment is down, athletics is heavily subsidized, the debt level is very high, state of Illinois is in dire financial position. There is just no silver lining in any of that. Unfortunately it could be a lost decade for NIU and many other Universities in Illinois because the state of Illinois failed to make cuts when they should have, they only raised taxes and just kicked the can again. It really is unfortunate and not NIU's fault. The state of Illinois and the representatives that run Springfield havent given NIU much choice. This is going to lead to some pretty rough decisions, such as cutting programs of all kinds including athletic programs. Now the economy is properous and other states and universities are moving ahead while the kick the can mentality in Illinois means that Illinois will be cutting, slashing, merging, etc.
Are you a Alum, and a citizen of Illinois? Just wondering why you care to chime in on this thread nor any thread similar to this?
I have an MBA and my career concentration is in finance. I work with many consituents on the muni bond side. Even if I didnt what is happening in Illinois is well published not only in regular media but white papers and other media. New Jersey and California are in similiar situations but California probably has a little more light at the end of the tunnel in comparison. NJ has made a lot of changes to their pension liabilities which will make a big difference but they have much work to do as well.

RE: BAKER RETHINKING HIGHER EDUCATION IN ILLINOIS
How would this impact the student athlete? I imagine he is looking to eliminate prerequisite underclassmen courses being offered and moving them to the CC trimming the amount of educators employed here. So if athletes are taking courses at a CC they would not have enough enrollment credits to play? Not sure how this would work.

So, do you brand COD and Harpers into NIU-Dupage and NIU-Cook County (or NIU Palatine)? Personally, I think NIU has to protect its brand and not work to build more satellite campuses. Keep NIU the star on the crown.
Yea I don't really care for this idea much either IF that's how they try to brand it.
