Taylor Adway Insight
In talking to Roy and Harv from Ilinois High School Basketball Recruiting Site “Illinois Prep Bulls-Eye", they had the following to say about Rocket signee Taylor Adway:
"We see Adway as a combo 3/4. Great athleticism, strong finisher in transition and on the break, rebounds well and has good mid-range shooting ability. Has similar style of play to former Western Michigan Freshman MAC Player of the Year, Darius Paul, who played with Nathan Boothe in High School. The one notable difference is that Paul was stronger physically and a better interior defender although Adway is probably a better defender on the perimeter."
They also had this to say about Coach K: "Tod Kowalczyk has done a terrific job and we know that he will continue to recruit the Chicago area hard in search of players who can provide him with the same degree of success that "Juice" Brown, Nathan Boothe and Kurt Hall have."

My only caveat is recruits have to perform. Last year's class was hailed by some as one of the best in years. So far Jon-Jon is the only one who looks to be anything but a solid role player. Next year's class looks even better but I'll decide when they hit the floor.

Jon Jon is from 2 classes ago. He's a Sophomore.
Last year's class is Kurt Hall and Stuckey Mosley.

Depends on you perspective. Last year's freshmen class, Lauf, Williams, Garber, was my intent.

I think people on here and in the stands overrated Lauf and Garber a bit because of their positions and the fact that they are local guys. That's not to say they can't become valuable starters in the future, but so far, they have only proven to be role players off the bench.
Jon Jon is very talented and will take on a huge role next year with Drummond and Juice gone.

Hall and Mosley are very intriguing. I'm interested to see how they fit in the rotation next season. Hopefully one, or both, takes the leap to a go-to player.

From my perspective, Zach has grown significantly this year in his defense and rebounding and some improvements on the offensive end. No doubt he has much more work to do but seems like his character will lend to much more improvement. If Jordan could develop his shot from mid-to-three point range it would make him a real weapon. He is a tremendous defensive player and rebounder who just needs to step up his shooting skills. No lack of hustle . . . ever.

Zach has improved on offense. Depending on how Adway and Knapke play, it would be interesting if Garber and Boothe were on the floor at the same time next season. We've been going small a lot in recent years and based on the projected depth chart next season, we'll be going small again, but I'd like to see two big guys on the floor at the same time for a couple stretches during games.

Still not sure what role Hall will have? Can't question his hustle, but he is not as much of a smooth scorer or ball handler as Pierson and Drummond and not sure he has the under the basket post skills of Tino Valencia at his height. Is he a guard, forward? Can't question his junkyard dog mentality.

I think Lauf will find his rhythm next year. He has to because I see his playing time going up dramatically. My jury is still out on Garber. Not sure what he brings to the table other than the occasional rebound or easy putback. We got that with Wonnel walking on. So his defense maybe improved but anyone who is over 6'8" should alter a few shots in the paint. And even though he will be a senior next year, cut the Spaniard loose. The experiment is over. Free meal ticket is done.

Lauf and Mosley will be the biggest benefactors in terms of extra minutes with Drummond and Brown gone. How they respond will go a long way with the success of next year's team.

Coach K always talks about Zach's outside shooting. I remember when Lauf was a freshman he mentioned outside shooting as his biggest weakness.

I think Adway will start next year... If the big 6-11 kid out of Onsted Mich.(A. Davis) becomes a Rocket, Toledo, with Hall at the wing, could have a dominant front line...

Onsted's Austin Davis, 6-10, C-PF, is still only a Junior. Onsted plays in the Lenawee County Athletic Association (LCAA) along with local schools, Mason (in Erie) where I went, Ida, Dundee, & Blissfield.
Davis currently holds offers from Toledo, CMU, Kent, Buffalo, and George Washington.

I'd bring him off the bench. He reminds me of Bob Repp who used to bring instant energy off the bench. Not always smooth and pretty but he was a disruptive force. Usually to the other team.
