The concern was well founded, but not because of the results. Carleton and Ottawa U were 8-2 against Memphis, Indiana, Illinois Chicago, Vermont and Syracuse.

Their loss against Indiana came without their coach and their best player. Their loss at Syracuse came after they had a 39-30 lead at halftime, and the second half fouls were 15-4 in Syracuse's favour.
