I think most Coogs are OK with this. I'm probably more generous than most with his time here, but I'd grade him at a B-. The stadium is huge for us, even with all the cloak and daggers used to build it. It's up, and we're playing in it.

But he made some horrible hires in the two most important sports: football (Levine) and basketball (Dickey). It's still too early to judge their replacements (neither have coached a full season yet).

Not sure if I'd find that funny, if I was a Memphis fan. Houston was a Big East choice before Memphis. The Tigers are lucky that Rick Pitino started stumping.

I appreciate all the hard work Rhodes did while here at Houston, he came here to get the new football stadium underway and got it complete.

Now we need someone who will get this program where it belongs, at the top (PAC).

Not a flame but Houston seems to have a lot of turnover with there athletic department... almost need a revolving door. I can understand that your head coaches left for P5 opportunities and that is good... but there does not seem to be any continuity at Houston.

First no flame taken.

I think that you are mixing coaches with admin. For the most part we have had admin wise little to no changes in the 7 years Mac was here.

As far as Mack leaving, I have mixed feelings. I wont act like some and say this is a small deal as he got us a stadium and we are in the middle of deciding what to do with the basketball arena. He has done a good job with the support giving to him. I do believe he fell short on the coaching hires (maybe not his fault totally as there were rumors of hires being turned down). I know for a fact Herman was his to just close the deal as Herman made it known he wanted the job. Sampson was lured in by Clyde Drexler and other's as Mack was turned down from a meeting by Sampson when first contacted. So in the recent hires I cant say he went out and got them. The hires he got Levine and Dickey set us back from the things we did. Overall, Mack did his job which was to get facilities in order.

The new AD, will have the challenge of finishing the basketball area and other upgrades. Not to mention the elephant in the room that all of us want. I think it was time for Mack to move on and time for UH to get some fresh blood in the house.

Rhodes was here 7 years, and the coaches we bring in speak for themselves. We are one of, if not THE premier G5 coaching destination. If you can get a Houston job, do well, and you're a made man.

The only way there's continuity in the G5 is if you have an old fart that no longer has any real ambition, or you're terrible at everything and no one wants your coaches.

That's one reason I have said we have the ability to attract top end coaching/AD talent. If you do well here---you WILL be noticed and it wont be long before you are sitting in a cushy P5 job. Macks area of expertise was in fund raising. He was here to build a stadium and upgrade facilities. He gets excellent grades in that area. He was pretty shakey at hiring coaches---but he learned from his mistakes and got better at judging coaches over time. Missouri made a good hire. We need to do likewise.

No doubt. Coaches under O'Leary constantly leave for greener pastures.... this in turn allows us to attract quality coaches.

We lost the AD (Orsini) that helped get us our on campus stadium...so we know the feeling. Of course SMU fired him a couple years later...so it all worked out ok. 04-cheers

I've always felt a little guilty that Houston got to play in the Liberty Bowl against the SEC but Memphis never did.

I like Memphis though. 04-cheers

Don't forget current UCF AD Todd Stansbury.

Given:

1. The salary we paid Mack,
2. The capital projects already completed, and
3. The coaches in place,

it should be a very attractive position. There's only one major capex project left to fundraise (Hofheinz renovation/replacement) and a couple of minor ones (new tennis facility, covered football practice field, resurfacing the outdoor and indoor tracks).

The main job of the next AD is marketing. Building the brand and connecting with local alumni and business leaders to raise our season ticket and donor base. He needs to have a good relationship with ESPN as well as the power brokers in the Big 12 and/or Pac 12 in order to position the school for the next round of realignment.

Stansbury is not going to Houston.
That's not what he said. He's listing candidates from 2009.

That's not how I read it. He mentioned the three from 2009 and current Ucf ad

Sorry if I was unclear. Houston has not had an AD job opening since 2009. I was saying that Stansbury interviewed for it back then.

As far as I know, the Houston AD job just came open yesterday and no one has been interviewed yet.

So I can see how you might be confused.

Or not.
