Who has the best shot at a Sweet 16 run?
IF they get their game together, I could easily see UTEP going on a serious run. So much talent on the floor at the same time.

Tech has that Florida Gulf Coast feel from a couple years back.

ODU and WKU are capable.

My heart is with UAB. If they win the conference tourney, the media would fall in love with their story.

My prediction is UTEP is about to have a very big couple of weeks.

I think UTEP is the most likely. Hunter is the best player in the league in my opinion, and I think he could carry the team.

I think ODU and la tech could make runs, but it's less likely.

thats where it ends for me.

I think La Tech, UTEP, and ODU are all capable of winning NCAA Tournament games should any of them get there.

RE: Who has the best shot at a Sweet 16 run?
I think it would most likely be any of the top 3 seeds (Tech, UTEP, ODU) and be dependent upon the match ups they encountered in the NCAA Tournament. If I had to select just one then I would choose Tech simply because they play the more unique style (full court press), but if they encountered a team that was comfortable bringing the ball up against the press then that could be a problem for them that tilts the advantage the other way.

For example ... Tech defeated UTEP this year because their strength is playing a helter-skelter full court game using their quickness against the bigger, slower UTEP. ODU's guards and smaller (than UTEP's) forwards easily handled the pressure when they played Tech and forced them into a half court game which is more to ODU's style. At that point ODU's defense had a greater impact on the game than Tech's defense.

ODU and UTEP play a similar style in that they are most comfortable in the half court sets on offense and playing half court defensive sets instead of full court pressure. With both teams playing similar styles/tempos, UTEP presents problems for ODU with their size advantages pretty much at every position.

LA tech. The big dance is all about guard play and Tech has some good ones.

If a team of bigs (like Wisconsin for example) is able to get you into a half court game you would be toast. On the other hand, if your press created turnover problems for them, advantage Tech.

Only way is for us to shoot extremely well from the 3 and have magical press.

We are going to get beat inside no matter what if we are in the tournament. I agree 100% with someone from last week: If a team had LA Tech's guards and UTEP's backcourt...that team would be an extremely dangerous threat in the tournament.

03-yawn ah, well...

I think you meant to say UTEP'S frontcourt; and I agree. Many have said the same about ODU this year.

RE: Who has the best shot at a Sweet 16 run?
I like our chances to make a run if we avoid the 7 through 10 seeding or a play-in game. Ideally, I'd like an 11 or 12, but I know the committee is going to want to set us up with a 2nd round matchup with UVA is they can get away with it.

ODU, UAB, and WKU could make a run in the dance if their guards and forwards get hot at the same time. These teams have a nice one two punches with their guards (Freeman, Norton, and TJ Price) and forwards (Ross, Lee, and Fant).

La Tech and ODU are probably 12 seeds? UTEP, UAB and WKU 13 or maybe 14? Anyone else probably 15 or 16?

I think Bigs can win you games in the regular season but things are much tighter in post season with games every other day. Guards are the key.

You got me. That is correct, I was a little distracted at the time. ODU is the only team I'm really anxious about playing, as your guards match up well with ours and you have us outmatched inside. If both teams make it to Saturday, it will be one hell of a slobber knocker.
