RE: New England Bowl?
Yeah---two non-descript 6-6 G5 teams in an open air stadium in New England during the frigid month of January--who wouldn't want to pony up for tickets to that? Just call it the Polar Vortex Bowl. This is stupid. They need an indoor stadium for something like this. Talk to Colts management about a bowl game. That makes way more sense.

RE: New England Bowl?
Before Orlando got added, this bowl would have made lots of sense. Not sure it does now, unless you drop an existing bowl. I see the AAC as a 6 to 8 bowl qualified league. with 6 or 7 likely.

Most bowl games are just live programming for ESPN (extremely profitable).
Tix sales for bowl games (or for almost any live programming), is becoming less and less important.
ESPN and now other sports networks NEED live games...as advertisers will pay for that (i.e. live programming, non-DVR viewing).

RE: New England Bowl?
Bowls are a week long series of fun events. It just makes sense to have these in warmer states. Folks up north can come down at a pretty reasonable cost and have a great winter vacation, and support their team. Even for the little St Pete or Boca bowls, the teams hit the beach! Vice versa is not really true.
Aresco get a bowl going in the Texans or Coogs new stadium. Houston is huge and only has one bowl, which was VERY well supported even before it became a significant B12-B10 event.

Might as well play it in Wellington, New Zealand in August.

The Sun Belt needs a dance partner out west as well - Texas State, Louisiana, or Arkansas State would be a good draw in Houston against an AAC team.

Houston would not support a minor conference bowl imo.

It would be fine in a 40K stadium like Houston's as long as the teams involved are within driving distance. So the participants would need to Houston, SMU, or Tulane from the AAC. The best opponent conference would be CUSA or the Sunbelt. They both have 3-5 teams within a reasonable drive of Houston. CUSA is probably the best with 5 within a reasonable drive.

Can see Houston, Rice, UTEP, and UCF. Should know better looking at this years results and not the whole picture on teams. (As expect UMass to jump up this year, but we got a new coach last year and being our 4th year FBS expect to be up near the 85 scholly limit.) But according to this site these do not look like likely teams:
SMU 1-11 # 124
Tulsa 2-10 #118
USF 4-8 #109
Tulane 3-9 #105.
------------------
North Texas 4-8 #116
Southern Miss 3-9 #114
FLA Atl 3-9 #110
FLA Intl 4-8 #107
UT San Ant 4-8 #104

What in the world are you smoking... Houston will NOT, will NOT support such ^^^ proposal.
Now, if we get USC, UCLA someone as such to come here (Houston) and this place will go nuts.

Would've made sense if Cuse was in the AAC. A pre-XMas bowl would make the most sense. The largest enclosed Mall/entertainment center in the NE is about 3 miles from the stadium.

Why not put a bowl in the Carrier Dome in Syracuse?

If I'm the MAC I'd take a slot in Mass if we could drop the Camellia Bowl down in Montgomery against the SBC.
Place UMass the first year there if they are 6-6 and then moving forward have UMass as a backup if the AAC doesn't have enough bowl eligible teams.

Sounds like its Foxboro vs. Little Rock.
Little Rock wants Sun Belt vs. AAC with AAC being very appealing to Little Rock given the proximity of Memphis, Tulsa, and SMU.

Yeah your corporate overlords from ESPN might not be too happy about wanting to ditch your six year deal in their bowl.
