I'll be very interested to see how they punish Donte Hill for this.

What I don't understand is why is the coach not dismissed by the university immediately? He is suspended for 9 games but the school should dismiss him.

I wonder how long it will take the NCAA to rescind, or at least modify the punishments a la those of Penn. St.

The NCAA is so pissed at UNC they are going to put ECU on probation. If UNC gets nothing...the NCAA has lost institutional control and should be banned from College Athletics.

If the NCAA disbands, that probably hurts Old Dominion a lot. Gives P5 schools that much more of a reason to take their ball home and not play any G5 teams.

RE: Syracuse
Syracuse, basically, committed almost every significant NCAA violation possible and over a period of years, not a one time thing, so this is a fairly light sentence. Without any significant post season ban(only their self imposed one this year), other than the Coach suspension (which I think is too short), the rest of it, really, has no teeth. If this had been a school, such as ODU, they would have been given the death penalty. The NCAA continues to play favorites.

3 scholarships a year is pretty strong but I don't feel sorry for them.

the three GPA contractors sitting on the end of their bench will now become walk-ons...I doubt it has any effect on their recruiting and talent pool...the "penalty" is a complete farce...college sports are great but you really have to hold your nose sometimes...

This. They will still get good recruits, as long as they are eligible for post season. The only way to really hurt them is post season ban and the NCAA elected not to go that route.

Um, because he runs that school.

I'm not going to argue that the NCAA isnt inept or consistent in their punishing, but I don't think they play favorites. In the last few years they had two big time programs in Miami and Penn State involved in big time scandals, and the NCAA went after them with all their force, the problem is it isn't much of a force and they managed to boggle both situations that allowed the schools to get through it with minimum damage.
I doubt we'll ever see death penalty again. Its been used one time, and had a lot of unintended consequences that affected SMU for some 20 years afterwards. I think the NCAA is hesitant to do that again. I mean if the covering up of the raping of children on campus didn't warrant the death penalty, I don't think anything will.
Though all eyes are on the NCAAs investigation of UNC, and while their credibility as a governing body is at an all time low, if they manage to screw up with UNC being it in the same way with Miami or by slapping them on the wrist, I doubt they ever recover that credibility.

It's not as significant as it seems when you consider most of the power teams don't keep all of their scholarships filled anyway.
