I walk for my MBA this year. This is a HUGE upgrade from Lamar Alexander that I had for my undergrad. If you look at previous speakers, he sticks out like a sore thumb.

It must be that you don't like his politics because he is very accomplished.

RE: 2015 Commencement - OT
A portion of the Rutgers faculty caused such a stink that Condi stepped away from giving RU's commencement speech last year. The stink was made on grounds that Condi allegedly committed criminal acts during the Irag war. Way to go, W&M ... and when the protests start, I hope Condi and W&M hold their ground. Last year's debacle was such an embarrassment for Rutgers.

#1 - compare him to the others around him and since. He isn't nearly as accomplished. There's just no debating it IMO.

#2 - he is incredibly boring as a speaker.

The two commencement speakers i experienced were Kingman Brewster and Barbara Jordan. I'd rather have any of the speakers mentioned above.

I had the President of Yale which I now realize was your Kingman Brewster. My brother had Barbara Jordan. Brewster was painful, as i recall.

You know we are really lucky to be a part of a diverse set of people to speak at W&M. Barbara Jordon & Condoleezza Rice, both African-Americans on opposite sides of the political spectrum. I am proud that W&M had both speak for commencement. They were/are very talented people of integrity.

And my classmate Bob Gates played on both teams :>)

We had Joe Ellis, before his plagiarism scandal. I think I win the worst commencement speaker. 65, you must remember your speaker to play the game. :)

I would think Lady Thatcher would have been cool in 97.

I had Madeleine Albright.

You must have graduated during the reign of W&M Pres Thomas Graves. Graves himself was a Yale graduate and an Ivy League "good old boy". While Graves was President W&M played Yale in football in New Haven CT on several occasions and Pres Graves always hosted a W&M Alumni reception after the game. Word was that Graves was promoting and advocating that W&M become a full member of the Ivy League. After Graves retired from the W&M Presidency, we never played Yale again in football.

Graves was indeed the President during my time on the reservation.

RTD editorial cartoonist Jeff MacNelly here...don't remember a thing he said, just remember we almost hit him on stage with one of the bottle rockets lit. One of the roman candles hit the Hall ceiling.....those were the days!

Art Buchwald. He asked all of the grads to stand and applaud all of the moms ... it was Mother's Day, as well.
