It would definitely fit better there. The travel would make it a bus league for the most part (heck, a regional rail/subway league for parts of it), and the school size is a better fit.
The part about AE I could never get my head around was what happened to CCSU, who's been after AE much longer than NJIT. I know Hartford's in their way, but if it came down to CCSU and NJIT, NJIT > CCSU?

The most likely scenario in the short run will be the WAC. Rumors persist that UMKC will be heading back to the Summit. NJIT does not fit but it will probably be their only choice in the immediate future.

I can't even imagine NJIT adding football. Even in a blown-out city like Newark, the cost of acquiring enough land for a stadium and practice facilities next to campus would be prohibitive. But, AA baseball Bears and Eagles Stadium is sitting empty downtown. Can a school have non-scholarship football if it grants scholarships in other sports?

Nothing is impossible if the government gets involved...but NJIT should not have football. Lacrosse is a different story.

Yes. They can be part of the Pioneer League who sponsor's non-schollie FCS football. All those school's in the League offer schollies in other sports.

RE: NJIT is going to the CIT.
Isn't NJIT like the Notre Dame of basketball? Too much pride to give up their independence! Lol.
I've always wondered why America East hasn't shown interest. NJIT plays most of the schools, has a similar academic profile, and would be a nice geographic bridge to UMBC.
Well, I hope someone finds a place for them. They've done a great job in a tough situation.

Yes - all the non-schollie teams in the Pioneer League, like Dayton, San Diego, Davidson, Valpo etc offer Scholarships in other sports

Central Connecticut State always seemed to me like it should be an America East school. Of course the reason they don't pull the trigger is because of football, see Monmouth for an example of that. Northeast had a fit when Monmouth went to MAAC and wouldn't let them be an affiliate in football. CAA football with the other peers from the America East would be logical spot but no room is open right now. So CCSU stays in the America East. If they would take off that would leave NJIT with the nice landing spot.

I figured. It is more of wish fulfillment on my part than anything rational. The NEC needs more football schools and a start-up program would (well, should) be an easy win for my Red Flash. We need wins! (I have no illusions about the Red Flash's football ability)

It's streamed for free on CollegeInsider.com. I love this tournament. I do think the finals are on TV, but other than that it's all internet streams.

The ASun would make a lot more sense than the WAC, especially with them losing Kennesaw State to the Big South. They'll be down to just seven members and will be willing to invite just about anyone.
It's my understanding that NJIT was close to joining the America East, but they ended up inviting UMass Lowell instead, who is still currently a transitional program. The America East doesn't have hockey, but a lot of those schools play hockey and had a good relationship with Lowell, which is why they got the nod.
The NEC would suit them best, but they're pretty full as it is.

I'm rooting for NJIT big time. I hope they win the CIT. Such a hard road for that school.
I'd really like to see the A-Sun go ahead and add them. It wouldn't be a bad fit for either group. They may be a little out of footprint, but they aren't exactly on the other side of the country. Honestly, NJIT and the A-Sun both need each other.

CCSU is a full member of the Northeast Conference (not the American East).

Kennesaw St is a Big South football only member. They remain in the A Sun for all other sports.
I agree the NJIT would fit best in the NEC but the American East or Atlantic Sun would be better then continuing as an independent.

RE: NJIT is going to the CIT.
If NJIT does leave the independent ranks, their women's tennis team participates in America East already, and men's soccer is in the Sun Belt. Both conferences have exactly six members in those sports, the minimum to qualify for an NCAA bid. I would suspect that America East will make NJIT a full member just to give the conference some breathing room in a couple of sports. Making NJIT a full member also gives them an even number in 3 other women's sports (Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball) and in Men's Basketball. If AE wants an even number in Baseball and Men's Soccer after adding NJIT, AE can add NYIT (independent) for Baseball and Hartwick (Sun Belt) for Men's Soccer.
The Sun Belt would then have four for men's soccer (Howard, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, App State), but the Sun Belt might be able to pick off Incarnate Word and Houston Baptist, who currently play soccer in the WAC. Of course if the WAC dies there will be other choices for affiliates.
