CHI Cubs Wrigley Field construction woes
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/mayor-chica...--mlb.html

Why is it so difficult for this organization to swallow it's collective pride and work out a deal with Jerry Reinsdorf to allow the Cubs to play at least April & May games in a ballpark that can seat their fans.

If I'm a season ticket holder who is getting displaced and and a refund; I am going the rooftop route which is not only alot cheaper with a view almost as good; far easier to get to your rooftop seat than snaking thru those narrow little concourses at Wrigley.

First of all, do the schedules even work to have two teams in the same park?

Secondly, once Cub fans show up at a real park, with parking, space, bathrooms, and concessions, they'll never want to go back to the old dump.

With a few exceptions, maybe once or twice a year, not including the Crosstown series, I believe it works out that when one team is at home, the other is on the road, so it's very likely something could've been worked out.

There's also a precedent for two teams sharing one ballpark previously: the Yankees played at Shea Stadium in 1974-75 while Yankee Stadium was being renovated, sharing it with the Mets.

On the radio this morning, Crane Kenny, team President, stated that there had been discussions with Milwaukee about playing games there, but if that was the case, then they were just dumb about it given that there's a perfectly good ballpark less than 10 miles away from Wrigley that's very easy to get to.

Exactly.

Reportedly yes. If he allows the Cubs to circumnavigate the construction regulations, it gives Chuy another angle to attack him.

a city regulation is a city regulation. even if it were to appease voters, how bad of a message would it be to grant an exception on something like this?

The city will lose tax revenue from reduced amusement tax fees

Meh. It's only the bleachers and outside of opening day, it's pretty rare for them to be full anyways in the beginning of the season, especially during the week. Only a couple weekend series will be missed.

Between paying the sox or Brewers or taking a loss on the attendance/concessions from a couple thousand people, it probably made a lot more sense to stay at wrigley

http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/schedule/sor...&year=2015

Here's the Cubs 2015 schedule

http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/schedule...&year=2015

WS 2015 schedule

There are no date conflicts. White Sox have only 10 April & 13 May home games. While the Cubs have 12 April (including opening week with the Cardinals which would sell out) & 16 May home games (5/1/-5/3 Brewers weekend, would sell out) (Memorial Day week 5/25-5/27 Nationals, would sell out & 5/29-5/31 first interleague games weekend with Defending AL Champion Royals, would sell out). That's 35% of their home schedule. I get some of the business reasons for keeping the games at Wrigley but if I'm a season ticket holder who is being displaced, I'm pissed.

RE: CHI Cubs Wrigley Field construction woes
There aren't many season ticket holders being displaced.

The reason it would be difficult to play at the Cell is that in early season, the weather is iffy. Games postponed due to weather are harder to schedule redos. Also, it is hard to keep a dormant field in game condition for one team, much less two.

Playing in Milwaukee would have eliminated the weather risk by being in a dome.

When the Cardinals built their new stadium, not all the outfield seats were ready on opening day. They finished in late May/early June. Life went on.
