Opening segment talking about cutbacks in the basketball program and how Memphis doesn't conduct itself as a top 25 program anymore. Saying if/when in the future that could hinder hiring someone else or it needs to change. Not saying why it has but I have a few ideas about that as well. If Bowen has cut funds to the program I can't blame him...with results like we've been getting I might would have done the same.

Also had a winning football program last year and a coach we want to keep. I'm sure that probably plays into it as well.

there have been several articles in the CA about Bowen doing less with more - smaller administrative staff on Normal among other things but I have not heard of anything cut regarding football/bball.

What specifically did they mention?

Making a push for the B12. I love building up Tiger football but always worried how it would effect basketball. Hope we either get in or keep making really good football hires. If not this entire athletic department could crumble.

I think the cuts began right away with the shift in leadership. We were pretty much informed there was dire necessity involved.

Interesting that Gary is talking openly about it; I think open discussion is good. Others have been mentioning these cutbacks as harmful to the BB program no matter who the coach is going forward.

Gary was basically saying we can't be a fisher price type college and think coaches like Gregg Marshall would take this job and fly commerical. He flys private jets every where he goes.


Don't worry about it folks. If we land a quality coach he will have 24/7 access to private jets and this is a fact jack.
