Internet etiquette is something that should be tought in grade school.

These individuals knew about etiquette. The fact that they chose not to apply it on the 'net speaks to how empowering anonymity is to some people.

No short skirt, no rape, eh?

Do you have kids? Would you tweet where they go to school? Why or why not?

I have a son. I don't know what I'd do by the time he's 18. I don't have twitter but I do have facebook. Most information like that is fairly easily attainable so...

OK, I've entertained your stupidity long enough. To say Schilling is somehow even partly responsible is one of the most idiotic statements I've read on this board and that's saying something.

This.

...is stupid b/c one doesn't understand the concept of the internutz capability?

this thread has taught me more than any other....

RE: Curt Schilling beats down two internet bullies
Social media giveth, and social media taketh away, as the Butler County Sheriff's Office proved.

Andrew Dale Marcum, 21, of Lemon Township, achieved local internet celebrity Monday when he publicly defended himself against allegations from the Butler County Sheriff's Office in a Monday Facebook post.

However, tipsters learned of Marcum because of that defense, and they helped lead police to him less than 24 hours later.

The sheriff's office credited the anonymous tipsters for information leading to Marcum's Tuesday arrest, according to a Twitter post from the department.

The sheriff's office did not immediately confirm the charges against Marcum and said a press release was pending.

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones is apparently relishing in the arrest via Twitter, posting a picture of what appears to be an emotional Marcum in his most recent mugshot.

I'll agree that putting anything on the net will subject one to ridicule. However, it's the trolls that are in the wrong, not guy wishing his daughter good luck.

Can't muster a lot of sympathy for any involved here. When you are on non-anonymous or make it easy to identify yourself on social media you have to use good judgement about what you say.

As for Schilling and his daughter, I'm sure they'll both live. No teenager ever contemplated, attempted, or committed suicide because they get ogled on social media or get too much attention from the opposite sex. Ogling is not bullying and they aren't comparable.

Having 40 year old men who don't know you publicly stating how they want to fistf*ck you because of who your father is doesn't really fall into the 'oh harmless ogling, she should be happy about the attention'.

I never said she should be "happy for the attention". Just that it's far from the most unpleasant thing that could happen to you online and it's not comparable to actual bullying.

And what does the age have to do with it? Would it be less unacceptable if it were 30-year-old men? 20-year-old men? Does that make it less "icky" and more okay in your eyes?

And what if this were middle-aged women making vulgar remarks to a teenage boy, would you care as much? Don't liberals think it's sexist to think women are somehow more frail and can't handle this kind of stuff?
