Imho, based on other schools' boards, I think this board has more in-depth discussion of basketball offensive and defensive strategy, play-calling, what players are doing or not doing, etc., than most. As long as you can cut through the recent clutter.

After WWII Memphis was basically a baseball city with hardball being king. In the late 50’s early 60’s softball leagues were created because it was said to be safer and slower to include those who were not as athletic.
Many hardball players switched to basketball and the good thing about it was you could play it all year. Some gyms started opening on the weekends to accommodate this trend. Unlike cities like Houston who had a bball surge but didn’t sustain the interest, Memphis has been constant.
Thus basketball became king in Memphis and (cough, cough) so far still is.
