How in any way are we similar to Temple?

Why Memphis fans enjoy denegrating their own basketball program is beyond me.

I noticed Michigan was mentioned among the comparable basketball schools earlier, and I agree with that comparison. Michigan always gets solid talent, and is usually very competitive year-in and year-out. Occasionally, they rise above the pack and take it a step further, while on the other side of the coin they underachieve to the point where the fans are saying, "WTF?"

Sucks being compared to the 6th winningest program of all time.

Yes, that's exactly what he was inferring.

Like Louisville, except for the parts where their fans spend money and go to the games even if their teams aren't in the top 10.

Seems attendance has been pretty good every year.

The dropoff seems to be this year, amigo.

Lville, Cincy and UConn.

Although Lville has won 3 national championships, one recently, and Cincy two a long time ago, and UConn's multi-titles, those are the three programs that I believe we should strive to be on par with.

Lville and Cincy left us to go to the Big East, at that time we were pretty much on equal footing and then we left them behind during the Cal years even though we were considered mid-major. UConn's success came during their Big East days and of course ran the table last year.

I will not go so low (no offense) to say Butler, Wichita St, etc. I just believe we are bigger than those programs.

That's it keep blaming the fans while you attend one game every 5 or 6 years.

Refs, fans, players, ex-players, ex-coaches, ex-ADs, etc.

Everyone but the man in control of the program.

So, you're saying Memphis bball should be similar to "refs, fans, players, ex-players, ex-coaches, ex-ADs, etc."? Seems an odd comparison, but that's what makes this board so great.

I kid.

Absolutely no reason we shouldn't be, ESPN put us at #19 since 1985 or 90, why shouldn't we be? No BCS in hoops, only have 15 players to support, draw 14-18k for many season now and have deep pocketed boosters who love it?????

Yes, that's exactly what he was inferring.

Temple and Memphis are both large, urban universities that have occasionally fielded competitive football programs; and both have good, not great, basketball. Both play football in cavernous, municipal stadiums and both compete with P5 schools for media attention and casual fan interest. Neither have proven to remain consistently relevant on the national stage in hoops, though both are located in the middle of recruiting hotbeds.

Right. No reason we ought to compare favorably to Ole Miss. Or Tennessee. Or Florida State. Or Clemson. Or Minnesota. Or Rutgers. Or Baylor. Or Texas Tech. Or Oregon State. Or Colorado.

No way we should aspire to be any more than those programs because we aren't in a P5 conference.

If you're going to run down the program in order to defend your position just ... stop.
