So I am not in a position to talk in any detail at this point, but the president is very interested in this avenue generally,” Earnest finished.

The question to Earnest was about immigration and not taxes. And Earnest very clearly states, that this is his own view on things and, that any action taken would be within the law. Earnest never said the president was very interested in raising taxes through executive action!
