Exclamation Things I like about the 2014-15 Monarchs
With only two games left in the regular season, thought I start a tread for positive thoughts about this team.

I really like this group of players.

Three of them are working on Master Degrees

They defend the Ted. It's nice, going to home games and seeing a winning team.

The Ted has been rocking. We are running at 86% capacity (+7k/gm) good crowds. Expect sellouts for last two games.

This team was a surprise to me and Trey was as good as they said.

The staff took on a 5-win team, that has close to 64% of that team is on this team and made them a +20 win team.

I really like the Jeff Jones/ Bryant Stith coaching combo. Really gonna miss Richard Ross, hard to beat having a champion high jumper on our team. Defending the Ted and winning at home is the best and hopefully we can do it 2 more times. Simply proud of ODU MONARCH BASKETBALL again, the jokers in Richmond don't have much to say about us these days.

I agree on everything but the last sentence above. I love this team. They have surpassed my expectations for the second straight season. They may not always be on their A game but you can guarantee they will play hard and never let up. I do hope we sell out on Saturday, but spring break starts this weekend. Which is what necessitated the Groupon promotion for this weeks games. I think I saw on Facebook students have only claimed 70 or so tickets for this week. If that promotion goes well, the place could be full. But without the students, I'm not sure how loud it will get.

Interesting fact: Only two teams in the state have a current winning streak against us, JMU and VMI 04-jawdrop

In other words, no Virginia schools are on a winning streak against us under Jeff Jones.

I bought the Groupon.

Agree sellout might be optimistic, but they are running a couple promotions and think +8K is very realistic. Don't forget you can trade in an unused tix for a GA tix.

That's another tread for another day, but she's retiring soon. Stay within the tread.

It is fun watching for Ross highlights on SC. Fun having a total freak athlete on the team.

I did too. I was going to the game anyways but this just saved me a few bucks. I'm hoping they lure some folks that might not otherwise think of attending ODU events and turn them into fans. We definitely have the team and atmosphere to do that.

RE: Things I like about the 2014-15 Monarchs
Yeah, saying the students wont be there and will be no noise, there is thread after thread about how the students never show up and when they do they sit on their hands. I will be there like always with my buds, even have a great long time board posting Monarch fan coming down from Maryland just for these last two games. The excitement is back baby!

I will just add, I concur with everything DaBig said. I'm proud of everything that is happening with the team. We have good coaches, good players and are gelling again right when we need to here at the end of the season. We don't have a fancy slogan (havoc), just a blue collar team of hard workers. Just look at Freeman for example. If you stand beside him he sure doesn't look like a basketball player. But he just may be the best player in CUSA. He brings intensity with everything he has just about every play. Plus skill. I wasn't sure we would be 22-6 at this point before the season started and hopefully 24-6 in a few days. That is certainly moving in a positive direction.

The future looks bright too. Onward!

The Ted will be a huge advantage for our team in these two games.

RE: Things I like about the 2014-15 Monarchs
I like a lot of things about this team, but my absolute favorite thing is that they play like a TEAM. They seem to be a close-knit group that likes and supports one another, are willing to check their egos at the door, and values winning above individual stats. Bacote, Palmore, Taylor and Baker are four guys that epitomize these qualities, but really, they all do. That's a testament to the coaching staff and the quality of the players. I hope they are rewarded with an NCAA berth this year. They deserve it.

I really love this team's business like approach. They really don't seem to get overwhelmed in any game situations. I also love the way they play defense when they are on point.

I was just wondering if any D1 basketball team has ever had two consecutive seasons of posting a 10 or more win improvement over the previous season. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but 28 wins is a possibility for this team. That would be amazing!

Would tie a school record painted blue. I'd take that, are you kidding me! Long way to there though!

RE: Things I like about the 2014-15 Monarchs
ODU is #1 in the CUSA in scoring defense.

At 57.0 ppg allowed, they are 6.1 points ahead of the #2 team, MTSU at 63.1. That's a bigger gap than between the #2 team and the #11 team.

Some other numbers:
--Freeman is 3rd in scoring at 16.8, Bacote is 25th at 10.8.
--Taylor is 16th in rebounding at 5.9
--Ross is 3rd in FG% at .580
--Freeman is 8th in assists at 3.29, Bacote is 15th at 2.75
--Bacote is 2nd in FT% at .850
--Freeman is 15th in steals at 1.14
--Ross is 4th in blocks at 1.61
--Freeman is 5th in AST/TO ratio at 2.0
--Taylor leads conference in offensive rebounds at 3.43

Something that also bodes well--we have no player in top 10 in minutes played/game.

Unfortunately dorms will be closed on Saturday, meaning that students that wanted to stay the extra day may not have a place to stay. Spring break is starting, and a lot of guys have plans for travel.

I'll be there, along with a few friends. I promise I'll stand and yell, hopefully other students will be there too.
