I believe Mike White has a real shot at CUSA COY because --for the most part-- he took a team that was picked in the preseason to finish first, and didn't disappoint. It's hard to play a whole season with a target on your back. White's team can still --and likely will-- finish 1st in league play. Any coach that does that thru a grueling 18 game conference schedule deserves SERIOUS consideration for COY.

Good Post. I think it's definitely down to White and Hasse. 1 and 2 in the conference. Hasse has got the comeback and underdog edge though.

Not only did Haase coach the 3rd youngest team in the country to one of the top contenders in the conference...he did it after losing last year's C-USA Newcomer of the Year prior to the season. Crazy turnaround.

I honestly cannot remember when a league had so many deserving candidates. White has done a great job as lead dog and living up to expectations. Haase did really well with that great freshman class and their improvement throughout the year has put everyone on notice (this class should do amazing things). D'Antoni, Rhoads and Doc have all done admirable jobs with teams no one expected anything from. And Jeff Jones still has his finger mashed on the fast forward button for a program that won 5 games two years ago and just 18 last season. I'll give the nod to White.

He's a great coach. Thrilled to have him in our conference.

It will go down to White or Haase. I think White should win it unless Haase wins it all at UAB. Just my opinion.

arguments could be made for Jones too....

it's one of the more interesting coy years I can remember....unfortunately, it's also one that most don't know or care about....

My main argument would be that ODU won only 5 games in 2013 (consider how bad we are....and even we have won 9 games) and has them near the top of the conference already. The turnaround has been incredible.

White has the most talent at his disposal, imo. He's no doubt a great coach, but La Tech was expected by most to win the conference.

that's 'fills' out the three scenarios....

ODU's turnaround from last year

UAB's mid-season turnaround with a very young group of players

Tech having the bulls-eye all year

I take Haase all day long....it's the turnaround mid-season thingy that is most impressive in my view.....toss in the additional caveat regarding what their football program just endured.....

just my opinion....

it's obvious based on this thread it's going to be a tight race....

Jones definitely needs to be in the discussion, but he won't win it. mainly b/c ODU is going to finish right about where we were projected in the CUSA standings. obviously what he did OOC was above and beyond any expectations most of us had.
