If Buffalo gets beat in the Championship, they're in as second bid.

I was going to disagree, but today they moved to an RPI of 30, and no team with an RPI of 30 or less has ever missed a bid.

The question is, what impact would a loss in the MACC have on that RPI.

Best road still is just to win out.

2006--Missouri St. #21, Hostra-#30
2007--Air Force-#30

If Illinois State wins this MVC Championship game, I have a real hard time watching a conference ranked behind the MAC have 3 teams in the tourney, and MAC only one. Buffalo def. deserves to be in the talks, no other team can say that they were up at the half on the road against both Kentucky and Wisconsin... Both of which are legit 1 seeds if they win their conference tourney's.... With that, the Bulls deserve to at least be in the at-large conversation.

RE: Buffalo Bullying way into At Large convo?
The MVC has the right formula for multiple teams this year: two consistently ranked teams and several others capable of making a run and winning the auto-bid. The MAC only has the latter. There are 3-4 good teams past the top two in the MVC, but their bottom is very weak. The MAC is more balanced but we lack the really good teams who can crack the top 25.

Looks like UNI will finish off Ill-State. Fun game, though!

Like someone mentioned before, the RPI is used as a valid argument when its fits the narrative of the selection committee, when it doesn't, its ignored. Its the only thing close to anything objective we have

You're just making stuff up to fit your delusion. Reality differs.

UB would have been in the "first four out/next four out" had they gotten a 3/4 seed, and had they won two games + loss in championship to only CMU in a close game. Now 1-1 won't be enough to even get in that conversation. Their RPI is by far the best of their ranks. All other systems have them in the 55-65 range. NOT good enough.

Would love to see it but it isn't happening. No way in hell are they giving an at-large to a 10 loss team that doesn't have a single marquee win. Their entire resume is built on RPI and the fact that they didn't lose too badly to the two tough teams on their schedule. Going 1-3 against the only OOC top 150 RPI teams you played isn't exactly a selling point. That being said I think they are the odds on favorite in Cleveland with the way they've been playing.

It's certainly nice to be having this conversation, but yeah I agree,,,UB is not getting an at-large.
I've never heard of the committee handing out bids because a team hung with some really good teams at halftime.

Fortunately for UB fans, this entire thread is now a moot point.

Quite. Last NIT bracketology I saw from the Bracket Matrix project placed Buffalo as an NIT #3 seed (and now that CMU has taken its guaranteed NIT ticket, it seems like it would be similar, #3 or #4).

But the mantra in BBall this time of year is simpler than the discussion in thread: its "survive and advance", which is exactly what the Bulls have done. I'll be cheering for them in the tournament.

Central is a #6 seed facing #3 Louisiana Tech on Tuesday in Ruston, LA.

Haven't found anything on the CBI or CIT.

Here is a comparison of Buffalo and the team with the best RPI to no not get an at-large bid:

#28 Buffalo 23-9(12-6), top 100 wins- (3) #76 CMU, #95 Kent St(x2),
#29 Col. St 27-6(13-5), top 100 wins- (5) #26 SDSU, #39 Boise St, #53 Georgia, #84 UCSB, UTEP #88

Safe to say that if Buffalo had lost they would have been NIT bound.

Yeah ... various NIT bracket predictions were putting the Bulls in the 4 seed to 5 seed range, maybe as high as 3, while in the event, CMU ended up with a 6 seed, right on the borderline between the at-large schools and the autobids (6 Alabama in the Richmond group and 6 UTEP in the ODU group being at-large invites).

At least the MAC had two teams in the final game where neither would have been staying home or relegated to pay to play tournaments if they lost.
