First Latin Black in the majors. Debuted in Cleveland 2 weeks after Jackie Robinson. Dealt shortly thereafter to the Southside Sox where he flourished.

Let the majors in steals 3 x and triples 3x. 9 time all-star. Top 10 MVP candidate 5x top 4 MVP candidate 4x. 3 gold gloves. Highest voting percentage for the hall was 21%.

Shame he didn't get voted in and could enjoy it.

Played in an era that the Yankees dominated. Never saw the post season as a result as so many others.

Was working for or affiliated with the Sox working with many of the their Latin players particularly in learning how to assimilate both here in the States but as a professional.

Was an icon in Cuba and a model for many future pros from Latin American in the 50's, 60's and 70's.
