RE: Official Game Thread: SoCon Tournament Rd 1 vs WCU
Our end of season performance has us entering this tourney as probably the WORST team in the field. And, things going forward will not improve with Bartow. Noland and Sander must take care of this. Bartow can NOT move this program forward -- it is stuck where it is for as long as he stays.

Riley will take the last 8 shots and miss 7 of them.

RE: Official Game Thread: SoCon Tournament Rd 1 vs WCU
McClain, the teams point guard, is 0-1 from the field. Whatever happened to the classic idea of a point guard knowing how to shot the ball or drive to the basket and lay the ball up or getting fouled and going to the line? Rembert was the big scorer on the team last year and he has been horrible this year. Could it be because Bartow had a new favorite in Riley this year and Rembert is not the "man" to go to anymore? As for Riley he does put up big numbers, but at what expense to the team. Sure he had 24 points the other night BUT he was 7-20!!!!! Bartow is, and has been, a coach who has been living off his late fathers name. If he has been such a good coach why is it that no other school has lured him away from ETSU? Enough is Enough!! Have the guts and fire him!

I personally love the idea of a point guard being much more of a passer than a shooter. However, you have to be able to shoot it at least well enough that the defense can't play 5-4 not even guarding our point guard.
Rembert has just lost all of his confidence. He has never been much except for a shooter. Last year and even this year he missed many easy layups and even dunks.
I believe that we will be better without Riley next year.

I think the criticism towards Riley is misdirected. First, Bartow is putting him in isolation plays to score the ball. Second, Riley's offensive numbers surpass Pigram's. Third, if Bartow would've landed more frontcourt help in the offseason, we wouldn't be entirely dependent on our perimeter players, Riley in particular.
I've said this before, but I'm supportive of Riley (Tim Smith, Jarvis Jones, whoever) having the green light.

Riley has the green light for sure but that means others have the red light. I would much rather see team ball than a one man show.

It is fine for Riley to have a green light but for the coach to have no other plan at the end of the game (or when we get behind) other then give the ball to Riley and get out the way sucks. I would take Pigram over Riley or Smith every single time. Of course Pigram had a stronger supporting cast the Riley, Tiggs & Smith>>>>Rembert and Wilson.

This has puzzled me this year. Remember last year when Petey ultimately decided to come back and seemed to have 'found' some semblance of a shot? It was unorthodox, and wasn't often, but it worked. He even hit a few threes. As we all know, if he's *never* going to shoot it, we're going almost 4-on-5. Even this season, he used to drive more, back before the conference games started, and even the first few of those. It's as if his shots went from rare to non-existent.
That said, as far as Rembert is concerned, it's a clear case of second time around, the defenses know what he's gonna do, and they can stop it. And of course bartow has no answer - no adaptation. Rembert *can* drive, and sometimes does, but methinks he could do it a bit more. As I posted last year, I was hopeful Rembert could pull a Dimeco Childress his senior year, and just be all-world his last couple of months. But that couldn't happen because bartow wants the ball in Riley's hands too much. How many games have come down to the wire this year, with literally every person in the building knowing who's gonna take the last shot, regardless of the defense? Riley is an enormous talent, but the Tim Smith imitation has been stale for a month or more now....
I.e., Rembert's game hasn't continued to progress (as Childress's did) because bartow didn't give him that guidance and/or opportunity. And that's really too bad.

On the plus side, Western Carolina is the only SoCon team that we didn't lose to this year...sounds awful saying that as a good thing

Having swept WCU is a good thing, suggesting the matchup is in our favor. But it might be time for their 1/3. The Bucs are just not showing enough heart on the cardiogram.
Riley might have been an NBA level talent with the right coach to develop his teamwork. And this team might be going to the dance. I'll be in Asheville Saturday and Sunday, should we advance. I might "work from home" and stream ESPN3 Monday if luck is on the Bucs' side.

I'll be there Saturday for the men and hopefully on Sunday again for both if they each pull off wins. Too much missed work to make it to the women's early games, so hoping for them to make it to the Finals.

I think we have a chance against Western.
I don't think Riley is NBA talent with any coach. I just looked at the final list of Players of the Week in SoCon and he or any other Buc made the list ALL YEAR. I think he sometimes has a nice shooting stroke. We also didn't have a Freshman of the Week but I feel that Bradford is one of the most talented players on the team (along with AJ).

The NBA is always a stretch for the undersized, but Mister made it. Not comparing Jalen to Mister. But if Jalen could have learned when to pass instead of taking so many poor shots, who knows what kind of player we'd be farewelling. I hope Riley, Rembert, and even Bates muster something hungry and hopeful. Saturday could be it for them.
