No question.

Ehh I dunno. I think a lot of folks are so down that even if a new hire happens, it may take a year to reel those people back in enough to purchase tickets again. They'll choose to watch from afar for a year

Depends on the hire.

Any hire would be an upgrade but only GM or Pearl is worth the buyout probably.

If we hired Gregg Marshall or Pearl I'd almost move back to memphis just so I could buy season tickets...

Why even mention Pearl? He is at Auburn. After what happened at UT, we don't need a coach with a target on his back.
Some of this is due to the schedule this year and almost every game is on ESPN.
Given the financial/economic climate over the last 2 to 3 years, many people aren't getting raises and can't afford season tickets.

Affording season tickets isn't the problem. It's enjoying the games I go to that is the problem. I was relieved that the game last Saturday against Tulsa was the last home game, because there was no longer an obligation to feel like I needed to go and get my monies worth out of the tickets. In many respects, I am renewing only because I finally got into a set of seats I am happy with and at some point the Tigers will improve. I am essentially viewing next year as a sunk cost in hopes of better coaching - and I will likely tell the TSF basketball people as much - even though it probably won't make a difference.

Actually, the economy is much stronger today (still not great) than 3-5 years ago...as that excuse would have been more accurate during the Recession but attendance was actually much higher then (fans obviously thought it was worth more to buy tickets and even those with tix, actually show up for games, i.e. much more no-shows this season).

The tickets sold average of 13,915 is the worst for the program in at least 10 seasons (there was no tickets sold average for the 2004-05 season). It is possibly the worst tickets sold average for Memphis Tigers men's basketball home games since the Johnny Jones season of 1999-00 (15 years ago).

*From the 1991-92 season to the 1994-95 season, figures reflected actual attendance. Beginning in 1995-96, "tickets sold" became the reported number.
**The 2004-05 season was the first for Memphis at FedExForum. Figures reported from that season were an estimate of those that actually attended each game. Beginning in 2005-06, "tickets sold" again became the reported number.

Here's the thing: I don't care what anyone says, those attendance #'s are AWESOME. Anyone who says that this isn't a top-15 program is crazy. There are very, very, very few programs that can consistently put up the #'s that you see in this post. Kentucky, North Carolina, Syracuse, Indiana, Ohio State, Kansas....that's pretty much it.

Throw in great facilities and a great hometown recruiting advantage and there is NO way that this isn't a top-15 job.

The thing is: Can we trust the announced attendance figures the last few years? We've all seen posts where there's ridicule of the numbers announced in comparison what we see with our own eyes of the empty seats.

RE: Worst home attendance average in 10 years...maybe worst in 15 years
NCAA D-I basketball attendance reached its lowest point in 2014 since at least 2007.

http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/co...53424996/1

http://www.ncaa.org/championships/statis...attendance

Clearly, there are other factors besides the team coach driving the figures (e.g., more games on TV, HD TV, parking cost, travel time, etc).

I think it will take a well known "name" coach like Calipari to improve attendance (e.g., not Marshall) and history shows it will dip in following years unless the team excels at a high level.
