No duo comes close in my view. I'll throw one out for all the old timers like me. Terry Douglas and Billy Mann (beat Syracuse at Scope) were pretty good.

Twardzik will forever be at the top of my list at guard but for a tandem Purnell and Caruthers pretty much dominated every other set of guards they faced. They would be the best duo I can recall. 04-cheers

Not going away to some of you basketball guru types who go back far enough at least comment on Purnell - Caruthers. I am just a fan when it comes to b-ball but I really cannot think of any other tandem that always dominated the opposition like they did. 07-coffee3

Purnell and Caruthers would definitely be in the conversation. They were as solid a backcourt as we have had. However, I think the edge would go to our current duo.

When Freeman spends as much time in the ABA/NBA as Twardzik then we can compare. And 5'9" Rick Nau would have been money if the three point shot was in effect. 03-old03-old:

Twardzik was great, but we're talking ODU hoops not pros.

I'm still partial to the 74-75 D-2 champs with Purnell and Caruthers. They were both good scorers and creators, plus they fed the big fella, Wilson Washington.

Drew is still my favorite Monarch of all time but he couldn't create a shot like Freeman can.

I think Douglass was earlier. Bobby Vaughan was the other guard (along with Mann) on the team that beat Syracuse at Scope in 1980; he hit the game winning basket at the buzzer.

Kevin Larkin and Kevin Swann were a great duo.
Better than these 2? Hard to say but they should be in the conversation I think.

At this point I would still lean towards them as being the best of all time for NOW. But keeping in mind that Freeman & Bacote still have a year to go I reserve the right to change my mind after next season.
