Sat 2/28 game thread, WMU @ CC "Rocky Mountain High"
Well, I had second thoughts about starting a game thread tonight, though I did get us 2 pts. Lets get 3 more tonight!

3-0 CC now. This team just doesn't have it this year, and the lack of discipline is becoming absolutely the 800lb gorilla.

Agree Murray should coach from the box the players spend more time there than the ice

Pathetic, we should have stuck with the WCHA. We cannot compete in this league with no snipers and or true goal scorers. We can't expect to win games with a team of grinders......broncos hockey has truly taken a step back this season, first time in awhile.....

5-0. I'm just gonna check in again in the morning. Not worth it. Our season is done.

I have said for two years now bump and grind hockey will not win games, all these stupid penalties goes back to the coach and the style of play he promotes. Its not the Philadelphia Flyers of the 70's.

The thing is, I can't see us doing any legitimate damage in the tournament. We take FAR too many penalties to beat teams like UNO and UND 2 of 3 games. I could be wrong, but I absolutely cannot see this team doing anything the way they're playing right now.

Murray has said before, he expects to win grind it out games, I.e 2-1, 1-0. You should expect to win 10-0 every night! As bronconut said, this isn't the flyers of the 70s (broad street bullies). It's embarrassing as a fan to say that your team leads the nation in penalty minutes. Sad thing is that our captain, laporte, leads the nation in minutes.

I haven't warmed up to our membership in the NCHC as much as I thought I would when it was announced. And it has nothing to do with records or performance, although this stinker of a season ain't helping.
I get that the league is more premier, but there's something attractive about more "neighborhood" rivalries that would've been in the WCHA. BGSU, Michigan Tech and Ferris State would grab my attention more than Denver, St. Cloud and Nebraska-Omaha. Although the Alaska siblings feel out of place in that conference.

I don't mind the NCHC-ness, but our lack of discipline - especially 32 games into the season - is ridiculous.
We have the record we deserve.

I don't see nodak coming into CC and having issues with the altitude and large sheet. Heck, they prolly love the large sheet, that team can fly.

I have to agree with this. WE struggle on the big ice... Add high altitude and a game riddled with a rash of discipline issues... and its gonna get ugly early. I also think that this team realizes its on the road for the playoffs... I hope we see a more motivated bunch once the NCHC playoffs begin...

RE: Sat 2/28 game thread, WMU @ CC "Rocky Mountain High"
How quickly the loyal Bronco fans forget.....
Last year in Feb. the Broncos went 0-1-1-1 in their visit to CC. They tied the first game, picking up the shoot out win and were shutout 0-3 in the second. Everybody was screaming "the sky is falling", blah blah blah....
Then what happened? A split with UNO, a spit with DU and a split with ND. Then a sweep of UMD first round of the playoffs on the road to make it into the frozen four in Minneapolis.
Am I happy with the loss? Nope. But I've watched enough Bronco hockey this year to tell you what was/wasn't happening on the ice tonight with many of the guys is not what I have seen of them this year. And it wasn't anything that CC was doing either, other than their tender had a pretty solid weekend
As for the penalties, some were deserved and some where not. It seemed like the officials were calling a very tight game with the body, but looking the other way with allot of the stick work.

No matter how you spin it this WMU team is very undisciplined.

There were some interesting comments by coach Murray in today's mlive article about the Bronco loss. he seems to be saying that WMU can't get the highly skilled offensive players to come to WMU ?? really? Why not?
