I'm about to leave work and head to The Reck. Going to be cold, rainy and miserable in the stands. Good thing this kid of weather doesn't bother the kids on the field.

In Sunday's pre-game interview, WG said yesterday's Game 2 starter, Salinas, told him 10 minutes before the game started that he'd been running a 102 temperature!

Chandler single ... Stainback walk ... wild pitch advances runners to 2nd & 3rd.

But Byrd makes the first out on a "soft flare" to 3B.

And Reeves knocks 'em in!! WooHoo. 2-0, Rice.

T2: Byrd just misses Diekroeger's wedge-shot double into "no man's land" down the left field line.
Hot shot deep in the hole beaten out.
Byrd turns nifty up-the-middle 6-3 DP!

Walk!

A foul-out ends the Cardinal threat. Whew!!

3-0, Rice ... going to B2.

T2:

> Taylor Ks
> Kopycinski singles. Advances to 2nd after a low pitch to Chandler hits and hurts the Stanford catcher ... possibly, JP speculates, it bounced up between his chest guard and mask?
> Chandler flies out to right.
> Stainback flies out to left.

3-0, Rice ... after 2.

Seems as if around 70% of their runs have come in the first inning.

T3:

> Lineout to Stainback
> Sharp grounder to the 3B bag ... "corner to corner" 5-3 out.
> HBP!
> 3-1 pitch called a strike as Dunlap flipped his bat jaunting toward first for the BB. Next pitch: Liner over Stainback .. rolls to the wall! RBI Double! 3-1! Grrr.
> 4-3 bouncer ends the inning.

3-1, Rice, going to B3.

B3:

> Bryd Ks, but reaches first as the ball sailed to the backstop!
> Reeves flies to center.
> Teykl singles to left!
> Warren singles to short RF! Bases loaded!

New Stanford pitcher, Thorn.

> Grey: Hard hit ball, bobbled, but out at first. Run scores! 3-4-3 is the scoring. I couldn't tell from JP's description what happened at 2nd. (Maybe that's where the bobble was?)
> Taylor: First pitch 6-3 ground out. Grrr.

4-1, Rice, after 3.
