SOT: #10 Northern Iowa vs #11 Wichita State
I can't be the only one watching this, so lets have a game thread for it. This sounds like a great atmosphere already!

So you're watching the first 10 minutes and the turn it over once it reaches out blowout status?
If we were to add a basketball only team, either of these teams would be excellent additions.

Haha no...I'll watch the entire games. I love the sheer dominance. As far as the bball only adds...IMO Northern Iowa is having a great season, but is far from showing they are a consistently top-notch program. Wichita State is closer to that status, but I'm still not convinced with them either.

Northern Iowa has football that we can help them build up into an FBS ready team that we can either add along with UMass or sit and wait on until the time comes if/when Navy decides to go back Indy.
Wichita State would be Olympic Sports only and could add the split dynamic that eventually formed NBE and AAC.

Easy to move up in the polls when you don't play anybody.

UNI crumbled in that environment. If they get a 4, 5, or 8 seed they could be primed for being upset in the first round.

I wouldn't even want to play UCONN on freshman day.

Here we go....
If we wanted non fb schools we should have kissed Gtown, Nova, and Marquette's butts and asked them what we need to do to keep them and the Big East name.
If this POS conference, that couldn't make it work with traditional eastern powers with national brand appeal like Gtown, Nova, etc. because we wanted a conference that everyone was on the same page and to be football centric, then fine, but to then go and add some mid major teams from tiny places because they happen to be the flavor of the month is just insane. NO NO NO and NO.

This "POS" conference seems to be holding up rather well. It'll be much better with the new recruiting classes. It UCONN and Memphis (and Cincinnati) were on their games THIS year, it would have been banner. UCONN and Memphis should always be in the discussion.

Uh, no.
I have been to a game in the 15,000 seat UNI-Dome. UNI=Idaho. Seriously.
EDIT: I also spent a few summers in Wichita. WSU has an existing 30k stadium (Cessna Field) which is not glamorous but could quickly be made to be FB ready. I do not anticipate the Shockers ever doing so, but they at least have the infrastructure in place.
I don't know what the infatuation is for schools with crappy FB facilities to come and join the AAC (UNI, UMass...).

As compared to the Sunbelt, MEAC, and SOCONN, sure.

Northern Iowa usually beats Iowa St in their regularly scheduled rivalry game played in Ames. I'm talking about Football.

Uh..."ever doing so"? Wichita st had a division 1 football team--playing schools that currently make up the AAC--until the late 80's. They played and beat Cincinnati, Kansas, Kansas st, Louisville, Oklahoma St and Tulsa in the 80's. You do know that right?

You do know comparing Cincinnati football in the 80's to the Big East and AAC years is stupid, just like this stupid thread. Until Cincinnati got that golden ticket to the Big East....amazing what conference affiliation can do for a program. In the late 90's when CUSA football was getting rolling S Miss and ECU were coming off a sustained level of success and winning. Louisville and Cincinnati were emerging from a long period of absolutely sucking to respectable programs and USF was not even a football program yet. A little over 5 years later and the latter 3 were "power programs". My point: Put Arkansas St or South Alabama in the SEC next season and by the time next years freshman are Seniors, those 2 will be lights year beyond any schools left in the AAC. Sad...just sad.
