But might be a good recruiting stop if planned well.

I'd rather play Liberty to be honest, but I'm not too upset. SMU was dreadful this past season, so maybe it'll be a close game.

This sort of tosses a noose around the theory that the SB teams are too far away for us to play. Notice, I didn't say it totally overcomes that theory, only that it makes it a little less of a argument.

I actually think that the purpose of this whole game is recruiting Texas. I think we all (or most of us) agree that Withers is an excellent recruiter and this has to be part of his recruiting strategy - whether we're FCS or FBS.

Haven't followed the other thread...what is the potential date?

I covered Coach Withers when he was an assistant at UT. He has already been working the Lone Star State since his arrival in Harrisonburg.

SMU is only 10 miles from the CUSA offices...

Could this game be our big audition? Set up by CUSA for an in person showcase!?!?!

He wants that $400k from the second game to help pay his assistants & to pump that money into the football program exclusively. It's a way to take control of the financial situation, rather than complaining to the AD for more budget. While I understand the playoff drawbacks, I can't blame him for taking the bull by the horns & trying to get what he needs for the program to succeed.

I can walk from my place in Plano to the DART, to Mockingbird station, to SMU stadium! But who needs a train, we need to drive for a proper Texas tailgate.
How many JMU fans can we get to this? 500?

So if you search google maps for southern Methodist university, the second review states "smu's football team is really a tragic story".

Very pleased and excited for the game. Job well done by the athletic dept.

In my eyes we dont need to audition for any conference. We should be invited if there are spots. This is a good game to have , and I expect to win. Just hope we didnt do it just for the money.

No clue who they're returning, but they really were God-awful last year. 207th in Sagarin, the second-worst FBS school in the country. We were 130th.
