What I saw when I went to the game at ODU is that they can struggle to shoot at times. Rice was able to frustrate them at times just with their activity and slowing the clock down. ODU likes to run transition, if they can get it, but in the road game I saw, Rice did a good job frustrating that. I think it was a conscious choice to get back and set the defense on missed shots.

Drone struggled in the road game at ODU, too. He really couldn't get good position, but when he did, he couldn't finish. Not sure if it's a carryover from that experience, but it probably isn't a good matchup for him.

Same for Seth. Seth tried a lot of dribble drives in that road game, but anyone from ODU who defended him was able to stay in front of him. And in that game, they really played Rice to pass out of those drives - they had Rice scouted well and had a disciplined defense that covered the outlet passes and limited the open looks. Not sure if it was similar last night, but as I stated in that other thread, this ODU team is good. Their half-court offense isn't great, so if they cannot get the transition/easy buckets, they can be had. But it's an impressive collection of talent, and Jeff Jones is another one of those semi-failed P5 coaches (had some success, but ultimately not enough and got fired) that seems to do better in CUSA.

Unfortunately, Ben Braun was not. But glad we've got Coach Rhoades.

54-63 Final ODU wins.

Probably because the 3-point shot didn't become part of the NCAA game until after he played. Who knows if he took any shots that would have been so in his career.

The comment about JT's father was verbatim what the radio announcers said. They were using this fact to compliment JT for his accomplishment, since he hasn't played a lot. It's something he can rib his dad about was the angle they were taking.

+1 good observations, gsloth.
