The closing remarks are going on right now. FYI, "No compelling evidence of violations of compliance" from 3rd party comments.

RE: SACS
This was my concern all along. I didn't think the BOT would be foolish enough to just leave evidence lying around or better yet hand it over to SACS. Their power of discovery is limited IMO. They don't seem to have the power or resources to dig deep into electronic records/communications, deleted files, phone records, etc. like the FBI, CIA, and other similar governmental agencies.

I think our best hope was and remains in the AL statehouse.

Ya got to be kidding me! Who did they talk to? Watts who probably said, "I included the faculty and students in all of my decisions and I acted with perfect integrity at all times - nah, don't pay any attention to those no confidence votes". Or may be they talked to Finis St. John who probably said, "No Trustee ever interferes in the day to day running of the UAB Athletic Department - anyone who says differently is a damn lair".

Which is very little hope when corrupt politicians is all you got.

What did you expect them to say, that Ray Watts is a jackoff?

Well, that would have been welcome (and aren't you supposed to be in a meeting right now?).

SACS has little in their armory between the "do nothing" and "global thermonuclear destruction" settings. A condemnation of Watts would have been helpful, but this doesn't change our course. We fight.

RE: SACS
SACS wasn't going to do any athletic program any favors by investigating. They looked into Auburn because their BoT supposedly supported athletics. They would probably appreciate it if UAB athletics was shut down, not really caring about the long-term effects on the UAB undergraduate program.

What looks like obvious conflicts of interest to us isn't clear-cut and anti-academic enough for an organization with little-to-zero investigative power, or care or concern.

It was a long shot from the beginning.

RE: SACS
I was expecting something in light of the votes of no confidence at the very least, not to even mention the administration's tampering with the honors program. Maybe they just wrote it off as an athletic issue and decided it wasn't work spending the man hours to accomplish something when UAB officially maintains a renewed stance of inclusion and transparency.

I really hope the committee produces something of merit.

RE: SACS
That's very disheartening. I wonder if this visit, as was already planned, was only concerned with a predetermined timeframe that preceded the no-confidence vote, etc. Once would think that they would have at least addressed the recent votes of "no confidence" if they were looking at these recent issues.

RE: SACS
Shared governance is no joke in academia, and the recent votes sound a gong that aren't to be ignored.

Operation "SACS That Ass" may have failed, but this is interesting.

Does the Alabama Commission on Higher Education have any power?
