MAC T&F Championships This Weekend
MAC has some very strong men's teams (Akron is nationally ranked. EMU is #26. Kent is in the top 40).

Donald Scott, great athlete with not so great hands, is ranked #2 nationally in the triple jump.

Shawn Barber, Akron, is #1 nationally in the pole vault.

Akron is very strong in field. EMU in the running events + Scott's jumps.

Here are the team rankings, ranking by events, etc. etc. (very good stuff). I think players/schools get points based on actual performance in events, not pollsters. Track and field is so damn easy. Use a stop watch and the measure times, not pollsters opinions. Field events are measured with tape measures. 48' 8" > 48' 4". Pretty simple.

http://www.ustfccca.org/infozone/nationa...=35&week=5

Scott and Barber raked up some nice points for us and Akron based on their performances.

I believe this event will be webcast by the MAC. I've watched it before. Good stuff!!

How on earth does Donald Scott still have eligibility? That guy has been here for the last 10 years, it feels like.

I guess this is his fifth year.

Below is the schedule of events for tomorrow and Saturday.

Scott will be active both days: Long jump (Friday) and triple jump (Saturday).

Perhaps due to the unproductiveness of his years on the gridiron, the NCAA decided to give him a shot with four years in another sport.

I'll double check, but I think this is his 5th academic year.

I'll check with someone, but his first year at EMU he did OUTDOOR, but not indoor.

Maybe he only has INDOOR eligibility only for this year.

T&F actually has two seasons so things could be different then other sports.

You probably know more on this than I, but does he have any chance at qualifying for the Olympics? I know we had a couple EMU alum T&F athletes in London in 2012...it would be cool to have some in Rio too.

Men's track and field programs have been decimated. The MAC conference meet will have but FIVE schools. What a pity, for this is a pure sport rarely determined by referees, the bounce of a funny shaped ball, or a bizarre call by a coach.

Thank the outrageous spending on football and the attack on men by Title IX.

Other sports have suffered too. Men's swimming and wrestling have both invited schools from conferences where the sports have been dropped.

We have a champion: Donald Scott won the long jump. As EMU finished #1 and 4. Akron finished #2 and 3.

Scott goes for his specialty, the triple jump, tomorrow. He is a top national triple jumper.

Think the 1st day is complete and EMU men and women both are in the lead with Akron in 2nd (for both genders).

Title IX has been a really huge problem for schools with sold plurality of female students (e.g., EMU).

It invites cutting men's sport or sports to bring the men's numbers DOWN.

It is one of those areas where it is 'impossible' to raise women's sport levels up to men's (because of football) that they need to put men's sports 'on a diet.' (I would cut 5 - 10 scholarships from D-1 FB).

This is one of the real problematic areas of college sports, in my opinion.

Donald Scott is the man. He demolished the field in the triple jump. Did 5 jumps; each was better than the next best competitor.

Two firsts for him (long jump was the other).

EMU women come on an edge Akron and win the MAC indoor T&F championships (all 12 schools compete).

EMU men were running away and faded badly at the end (with running their forte') and finished 2nd behind Akron (5 schools compete).

Our women (T&F and hoops) had big days... Men, faded in both hoops and T&F.

RE: MAC T&F Championships This Weekend
One of our star runners had a very rough outing. Tyler Brown went to the Junior Olympics (>20) last year and won a gold medal in the 4x400. He didn't even make it to the finals in the 400m at the MAC, didn't run on the 4x400 and I think failed to score in both the long jump and 200m. I imagine he's hurt or sick. It clearly cost us way more than enough points to lose the championship.
