If some things aren't policed, yep, they will eventually get out of control.

RE: And this is why rushing the court will ultimately be banned........
Nobody got hurt this time, although one of our players took a mild shot and Self was bumped to the point of losing balance.

I'm old enough to have a perspective on this whole thing that would clash with many younger people - I never rushed the court even after a big victory, and I don't feel like my experience was diminished in the least. As strange as it may seem to some, it's possible to enjoy a win without doing that. But more importantly, I do think that there's a certain sense of entitlement to this whole thing that extends to some (certainly not all, by any means) feeling that it's somehow their "right" to do what they please, and if someone gets hurt in the process, well, they should "just deal with it". Unfortunately, I think that many of those same people would be the first to sue a school which they derided for even considering limiting court storming if they themselves were to be injured. And yes, I do think that unless some strong procedures are put in place, it will be sooner rather than later that someone gets hurt.

At the very least, I think that without question people should be kept off the court until the entire party from the opposing team (players, coaches, managers, support staff) has exited completely into the back hall of the arena leading to their locker room area. I think that anyone who breaks that rule should be subject not just to any criminal prosecution that may be appropriate, but also banned from future sporting events and/or suspended from school.

If you want to celebrate with your own team, fine - but be respectful of your opponents, and be thoughtful towards the other people in your arena who may not be participating in a rush. If you think the purpose of court storming is confrontation and/or taunting, frankly I don't think there's any room for that and it shouldn't be tolerated.

I just wonder if the media (especially ESPN) who were taking potshots at Rutgers fans who didn't storm the court immediately after we beat Wisconsin earlier this year are the same ones who are against court storming.

Court/field storming is awesome and adds a lot of atmosphere.

Imagine Chris Chambliss' '76 pennant winning shot without the hoards of Yankee fans rushing the field. Or the iconic image of two men running beside Hank Aaron after he passed Babe Ruth.

It's all fun until someone gets trampled or punched…an then there's a lawsuit.

That's why it was outlawed in the NBA. Celtic fans stormed the court during the epic, legendary Game 5 of the 1976 NBA Finals before it was over and when told to clear because of that, a C's fan punched the ref.

As for trampled, the wife of a famous Stanford alum (not John Elway, I can't remember who) was stepped on and her legs crunched as fans hurdled on and off her.

I was about to point this out. I actually think court stormings are safer now than they were forty years ago.

When most fans storm the court, they run toward mid court. Seems kind of natural. K State, for whatever reason, runs toward the benches. Kansas is one of those teams that will have the court stormed every time they lose on the road, yet the only place it seems to be an issue is K State.

I also find it ironic that ESPN, who does more to glorify court stormings than anyone or anything else, is now talking about how it should be banned.

That was a great game (1976 NBA Finals Game 5) by the way.

It use to be that way. Now with social media and any looney person trying to get hits on Twitter, FB, and Youtube, it has pretty much jump the shark.

If ESPN were to turn off the cameras when one begins, and refrain from showing them at the end of highlights on SportsCenter, it wouldn't eliminate it but it would likely put a huge dent in it. But they won't do so - they'd rather play both sides of an issue, as they do for most things.

If it was one of baby programs (Kentucky,Duke, etc.), they'd support it.
