Here's an idea being put forth on a couple of sites I follow for Mideast info. Just wondering what your takes would be.

The idea is that Obama has decided that we can't stop Iran from getting nukes, and once they have them they will be able to dominate the Arabs, and therefore we are trying to build the relationship with Iran. We've decided they're going to be the winners, so we are jumping into their camp. Or at least trying to, the Iranians aren't exactly cooperating.

Not sure whether I believe it or not. But it does explain a few things that don't make a heck of a lot of sense otherwise.

Iran hangs Obama in effigy even as it negotiates nuclear deal with US

These are Obama and Kerry's buddies. They hate Israel and will kiss Iran's ass. Yep, makes sense....

Quote:Just weeks before Secretary of State John Kerry held new nuclear talks with Iran’s foreign minister in Geneva, Iranians were hanging Kerry's boss in effigy at a huge Tehran-sponsored rally marking the Islamic Revolution’s 36th anniversary, an event that critics say underscores the absurdity of the ongoing diplomatic effort.

The U.S. and Iran are trying to reach a final nuclear agreement by a March 31 deadline against a backdrop of ongoing anti-American hatred in the Islamic republic. Photos posted by the Middle East Media Research Institute this week show Iranians marching in front of a display depicting President Obama hanging from a gallows and carrying signs of Kerry, portrayed as a devious fox.

Hundreds of thousands of Iranians took part in the Feb. 11 Revolution Day, which commemorates the 1979 overthrow of the U.S.-assisted Shah of Iran. The Iranians, as they have in past, chanted, “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.” They also burned and trampled an American flag.

Kerry: America Has “Closest Security Relationship With Israel Right Now, Than At Anytime In History”…

In related news, we now know the answer to the question: “Is John Kerry mentally ill?”

Quote:Secretary of State John Kerry touted the US’ relationship with Israel, arguing “we have a closer relationship with Israel right now, in terms of security, than at anytime in history” on Sunday’s “This Week” on ABC.

“We have a closer relationship with Israel right now, in terms of security, than at anytime in history. I was reviewing the record the other day. We have intervened on Israel’s behalf in the last two years, more than several hundred, a couple of hundred times, in over 75 different different fora in order to protect Israel. I talk to the prime minister regularly, including yesterday. We are not — we don’t want to see this [Netanyahu’s speech before Congress] turned into some great political football. Obviously, it was odd, if not unique that we learned of it from the Speaker of the House and the administration was not included in this process. But the administration is not seeking to politicize this. We want to recognize the main goal here is to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, and on that, Israel and the United States agree” he stated.

If so, this is a two year policy decision with long-term implications that will almost certainly be reversed in every possible way in two years. I can't imagine any of the serious presidential candidates at the present time sticking with this kind of decision... certainly not Clinton or Bush.

Obama does not generally let subject experts choose policy - in foreign affairs or domestic policy. I can understand a foreign policy wonk making this kind of policy recommendation, but I can't imagine political advisers doing so. And, if Obama went counter to the advice of his political advisers, this would be a first. How could this benefit Obama or the Democrats?
