Arick Forrest is the new WR coach
http://hamptonroads.com/2015/02/odu-hire...-receivers

Forrest is Dublin, Ohio native who suffered a career-ending injury as a senior at Bishop Watterson Catholic High School in Columbus, Ohio. Determined to become a football coach, he served as a graduate assistant for four seasons while attending Ohio State.

Tressel called Wilder to recommend Forrest, and he was hired in early 2012. “Arick had a really good background when he got here from working at Ohio State,” Wilder said. “All of us could see what a great job he was doing from the moment he got here.”
“Every decision that was made regarding our wide receivers, whether it was guys on our team or guys we were recruiting, it came down to us sitting down and having a discussion,” Forrest said. “We were really like a team.

“He mentored me and taught me a lot. But he also listened to my input. I know he’ll help me whenever I need it.

Sounds like a good guy, but I'm a little concerned about the lack of recruiting experience and contacts. Burden was the best, a really good recruiter. To lose that and go to an unknown is a bit risky. Guess we;ll see. I'm rooting for him.

Yeah, that's my sentiments as well. On the one hand, I was hoping to get a coach with experience and reputation to replace what we were losing in Burden. On the other hand though, I'm happy that Wilder is giving this guy an opportunity to prove himself. It sounds like he's earned it.

Very underwhelmed.

We couldn't get an already proven recruiter to come here?

Ok. Well let's see what he's got.

I love that it is a promotion from within. A guy already familiar with what we have going on and hungry to continue to grow.

At our level, developing coaches/recruiters in-house is a good strategy for success.

The big question that no one has asked is "What is his recruiting contacts in Dublin, Ohio?" I know Ohio is considered a strong recruiting area, but does he know the coaches there? Having Tressel call wilder and endorse him is big.
Kermitt Buggs should be able to recruit the 757 for us.

RE: Arick Forrest is the new WR coach
Just to be clear, he has recruiting experience. Years of it. Just not visiting high schools and homes. But, he's done plenty of recruiting from on campus.

Wilder mentioned there were some legit candidates. This guy comes with a recommendation from Jim Tressell so I'm sure the decision Wilder had to wrestle was getting a more seasoned coach or hire a younger guy with potential that you know what you are going to get (in terms of work ethic).

I was more interested to see who would recruit this area; Kermit Buggs. He's a great person to recruit here.

Doesn't ODU still have the ex Phoebus coach as an assistant?

I really like the hire. Kid is obviously motivated. I like the young look. Could turn out to be a great hire. Time will tell.

Let's face it, football is a young man's game. We give him a chance.

For $76K, what were you expecting? This was Burden 7 years ago.

Trust me, I realize how hard they work and appreciate the amount of work they put in.

Since he doesnt have any time to spend it, he shoudl be able to put a large chunk away!
