#Baylor #NCAA RT @NCAA: The NCAA did not declare Silas Nacita ineligible and Baylor has not requested a waiver for him.

Not really. The way Baylor handled it, to begin with, it seemed the NCAA did the trick but, not so.

Baylor has, basically, thrown him off the team. I imagine he's eligible to play; unless they make a big stink.

Baylor RB Silas Nacita says NCAA ruled him ineligible, but the story has holes

This story makes it look like there's a bit more to the story... or maybe less. I don't think we have all the information yet.

Baylor is just covering their butt so they wont have an eligibility problem during the season costing them some wins. If they like the kid they should just give him a scholarship and eliminate whoever is supporting his stay at bu. they have plenty of money.

RE: The NCAA is such a joke
There is more to this story. Walked away from a scholarship to Cornell. Has a student loan to cover housing when he joined the Baylor Football team.

Quote:At 16, Nacita lost his father to bacterial meningitis. At 17, he and his mother clashed. Amonna Nacita, an elementary school teacher, wanted to spend more time with Silas, the youngest of her four children. Silas tried pushing her away. Amonna wanted Silas to give an account of his whereabouts. Silas wanted autonomy. They battled and argued until, finally, Silas bolted.

As a senior at Bakersfield High, he lived on a series of couches in the homes of friends. The separation did not keep Amonna completely away. She attended football games and wrestling matches. She was there when Silas graduated.

Silas carried a 4.1 grade-point average and earned a scholarship to Cornell. At Cornell, Silas rushed for 99 yards and scored six touchdowns as a freshman but grew disillusioned with the bitter cold, with the Ivy League atmosphere and competition. On the advice of friends at Baylor, he moved to Waco, 1,600 miles closer to home.

regardless of the football story part of this, that is rather impressive that he held that high of a gpa, got into cornell while having home problems like that.

Correct. Baylor can't play him because they could end up in trouble if the NCAA came back and ruled him ineligible later.

Sucks for the kid, but these rules are there for a very good reason. It keeps Baylor's wealthy donors from putting kids up in practical mansions.

Exactly. People seem to think the NCAA makes up arbitrary rules strictly to stick it to the athletes. The truth is all those rules were written in response to shady actions by coaches, boosters or institutions over the years.
