Fastest Combine Time Not Good Enough?
UAB WR, JJ Nelson, and his school not good enough for Adidas so they changed the rules. Must have really thrown their execs into a panic on how to get out of this one.
I'd love to say how I really feel about these guys but forum rules prohibit it.
Adidas Refuses to Award JJ Nelson $100,000 for Fastest Combine Time
Adidas Reneges on Payout

An initial look at the situation makes the Germany-based company's decision not to award Nelson look cut and dry, as Nelson had not already signed an endorsement deal with Adidas before running his 40 yard dash attempt. However, Nelson states that Adidas never approached him about signing an endorsement deal beforehand despite him filling out a waiver form and switching from Nike to Adidas shoes for his run. Therefore, if you believe Nelson, he in essence tried to do everything right, but will still miss out on $100,000 because Adidas never offered him an endorsement deal.

As a TROY grad Ive sworn an oath to dislike UAB. BUT, Addidas can 'kiss it' after this showing.04-chairshot

Many, if not most, UAB fans are siding with Adidas on the issue. The wording in the article makes it sound like he got totally screwed. It may not have been the situation exactly as it was presented in the article.

I don't care if it wasn't exact. They advertise the money goes to the top 3. Then they say they have to have signed a contract. They didn't offer him one. How is that right? He was a combine invite....which makes him most likely draftable. Ergo: he should have been offered one. They just didn't see him as marketable and so, what?, he doesn't deserve it?

I saw, on one news site, some guy suggest he go sign with Nike and make a commercial where he switches out those Adidas shoes for Nikes and proclaims "I just made 100K in 4.28 seconds"
I'd laugh my ass off.

I would say Adidas has the right to sign who they want and they didn't want to invest in a 156 lbs combine invite

Well if their goal was to be associated with the guy running the fastest 40 at the combine they should have, pretty stupid on their part. In fact, they should have known about the 5 guys they needed to sign. This will cost the more than a 100k in negative publicity

What does UAB's program being gone have to do with this kids NFL future... Much less how fast he can run a 40 which is what the whole thing was about. Adidas is trying to prove their shoes can compete with Nike, they are involved in a huge law suit right now. If you are trying to get the fastest 40 time ran in an adidas shoe... You sign every small dude there is. If you sign 9 of the 10 fastest and Nike signs the fastest... You lost. This was marketing strategy, not trying to find the next lebron james.

The "negative publicity" over or under 100K will matter if this athlete was a Notre Dame kid vs a UAB kid.......unfortunately somebody has to champion his cause and presently UAB would be the easier and cheaper dragon to slay....I'm saying less than 100K

I'm sure Adidas has a very good team of people projecting the future of these kids and unfortunately they aren't gonna give everyone 100K for running 40 yards fast, you have to bring something to the market. They made a choice and eventually could always get some attention to retrospectively give him 100K even if they aren't under contract.Hopefully they will not send the check to Dr. Watts for distribution if that happens.

I just don't see any image damage by Adidas by not donating to a certain cause, his agent was sleeping and I hope he wakes up

Nike will make more money off this than adidas ever will. The whole point was to award the fastest time and gave him wearing an adidas shoe doing it. The dude did it now they look small time for not owning up to it. Adidas is a joke of a company. Under armor will pass them in the US very shortly and will only be 2nd to Nike. This fine print bullsht is stupid

I'm sitting here thinking, $100k is a drop in the bucket for their marketing budget, pay the kid his money and look like a quality company, instead of looking like a bunch of jackasses.
