In case you are wondering, in academic circles this media outlet is a really big deal ...

Maybe Jerry Falwell was right. The late evangelist always figured that most people would dismiss anything that started in this little city, where he founded Liberty University. "They think of my hometown as a rather primitive Blue Ridge Mountain village, a backwater on the James River," he wrote in his autobiography, Strength for the Journey.

Anyone have a account? If so can you post the article on this thread? It went directly to the super short free version for me.

I had the article up for about 4-5 minutes before I lost it. It was enough time to read it a good portion of the way through. These articles usually get reposted to other educational sites within a few pages.

In a nutshell, the derision from academic circles in regard to our LU Online success has turned to outright envy and emulation. every major school worth its salt is trying to figure out how to copy what we are doing. The academic landscape is changing must faster than century-old institutions are prepared to manage. our relatively short history has made us more nimble and willing to challenge the old paradigm.

That's great news. Perhaps the LUO portion of the school won't be so ridiculed by the academic world. Maybe our "diploma mill" stigma will dissolve and other schools and FBS conferences will give us another look.

The diploma mill crack is going to lose steam very quickly in the next five years as evceryboidy gets further into the game. It is tough to lay the smack on us when their alma mater does the same thing only with less success.

I have a relative who is an online prof at Radford University. He states that most other colleges are closely monitoring what LU has done with it's online predominance to then apply it to their school.

You are exactly right Sly in that what LU has been able to create is actually the envy of most all other schools with their online program. It's easy to toss stone when one is one of the first to conceive and develop a program that is heads above most all others. This is one of those situations where time will show the smart made with their online program, as long as they don't dilute or mismanage it.
