Also a part of it is http://www.odubigblue5k.com/ that will continue to grow the spring game attendance and inject more new fans.

I hope whoever came up with the 5k idea got a raise. Its a great way to get people familiar with the campus and everything that happens there, including the spring game.

Agree. Moving BB Barbeque to Harbor Park baseball game is a super move as well. Selig and crew getting it done.

Question for Charlotte fans: Did your coach redshirt(or otherwise delay) some FBS ready players for the upcoming season? Record last year not that impressive.(apologize if a question like this already asked).

Also could you list one or two must places to see if visiting Charlotte. Thanks and our best to the 49ers!!

We redshirt almost every player.

We also have some FBS transfers that will be eligible this year after sitting out last year.

Our record last year sucked because our defense was so terrible. We now have a new D coordinator, get some of our better players back from injury, and have some FBS transfers that will be eligible, so hopefully that is a huge area of improvement.

As long as our QB isn't terrible, I think our offense will do okay in FBS.

Defense was indeed terrible, but play calling only pay of the problem. Injuries killed any chance of a cohesive defense. We simply didn't have the depth to replace anyone on the defensive side of the ball. When you are red shirting 20 players out of 75, injuries take a much deeper toll. last year we lost 3 LB's for the season by game three. We were playing walk ons or former walk on's on the defensive side of the ball the majority of the season last year.

I personally think that the defense will be improved next season, but the results might not show up on the field due to the improved opponents.

I think Charlotte is going the right way, but it's going to be a long season. I don't see us competing on the field until 2017.

Well, if you visit before mid-October, check out the US National Whitewater Center. It is probably about 20 miles from campus, but only 10 or so miles from center city. It is the official training facility for the whitewater olympic athletes. It is also the largest artificial whitewater river in the world with Class II-Class IV rapids.

It also includes 20+ miles of trails, flat water kayaking, paddle boarding, mountain biking trails, climbing walls, obstacle courses, zip lines, and more. Think of it like an athlete's amusement park. Really a one of a kind venue that we are very fortunate to have. It's about $55 for all day and includes everything.

If you like traditional amusement parks, Carowinds is always fun. This year the park will open the tallest traditional roller coaster (chain lifted) in the world. It has the third most roller coasters in the world. Only Cedar Point and one other park that I can't remember have more coasters.

There are tons of great breweries in Charlotte, all within a few miles of Uptown--making it pretty easy to put together a cool brewery crawl and taste the local brews. NoDa brewery won 1st place American IPA at the world beer cup last year, which was the most competitive category in the competition. Asheville may hold the title of Beer City USA, but all of NC's major cities have great breweries.

I love the Whitewater Center.

http://usnwc.org/

There are tons of physical activities to do (ropes courses, climbing, trails) as well as the rafting. They also have a nice stage, restaurants (cold beer +), and tons of special events. It's reasonably priced as well.

There's also the NASCAR Hall of Fame uptown and you can drive a stock car at Charlotte Motor Speedway as part of the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Lots of NASCAR team shops in the area too. Hendrick Racing is about 2 miles from the speedway.

Yeah good point. I'm not a Nascar fan so these things never really cross my mind. I've heard the Nascar Hall of Fame is fun though even if you don't care much for Nascar.

UTEP's spring game is April 10th.

Looking forward to seeing which QB rises above the field of 7 on the roster, 2 of which are walk-ons.

Belaboring the point a bit, but I think that the bolded part was a much bigger factor. This team was mostly playing guys who signed on before or immediately after the CUSA announcement, and only about 45-53 players deep both seasons, and then the defense suffered key injuries both seasons. The patchwork walkon plug in defense and prevent minded approach was totally inffective.

It doesn't mean that the talent has made a huge overnight improvement (more likely, incremental), but they will finally see some relief from the depth issues.

I still don't expect Coach Lambert to dess more than about 70 players though. He comes from a coaching tree that believes in redshirting all freshmen. "We've got to get older" is a frequently uttered mantra in his interviews.

RE: 2015 Spring Games
At the Chalk Talk, Lambert said he likes to red-shirt half of the incoming freshmen (think we did (9) last year). Although he's from the Grobe coaching tree and red-shirts several people, he doesn't do it to the entire class like Wake did.

RE: 2015 Spring Games
I interpreted his comment to mean that he could only redshirt about half of them because of depth issues. He was going to redshirt Kalif Phillips, but couldn't, once Barnwell was kicked off the team. What he does with Akease Rankin this year will be interesting. It will probably come down to how effective Duncan is.

The Herd will feature seven new players for spring, two of which are big DTs in addition to 6'6 210 QB Chase Litton. Also a TE, two LBs and and a 6'4 WR. Prob some walk-ons as well. Green White game the last Sat in April. Looking forward to it.
