So, Hoops HD is basically a blog on steroids (if it's even that) that's run by a group of friends; some of whom work in college athletics on the administrative side in athletic departments, some who work in the media, and some who are just super-fans. It's a side project that we don't really promote outside of social media and word of mouth. Really, it's just our own little playground. Sometimes when you work in athletics in one capacity or another, it's good to have a hobby that reminds you why you love it and why it's fun.
We just wanted to share it with a few independent message board communities that we thought might appreciate it. Thanks to Georgia Tech Swagger for giving us the green light. If you do watch the podcast, it's certainly a different approach. Most of them use aliases, and come up with some pretty creative aliases.
They also make it clear that they're not necessarily trying to guess the selection committee, but rather act as if they were the selection committee. So if it's exact precision that you want this may not be the bracket projection for you....at least not this week. But, they do talk about what they think the committee would do differently than what they've done, and some of them probably know the committee pretty well.
Thanks for checking it out. Hope you enjoy it. If you don't, then I hope you didn't waste too much of your life looking at it....
The top 8 teams according to their RPI ranking are either a 1 or 2 seed in this bracket. So it's hard to question at this point which of those should be 1's or 2's, and it wouldn't matter. Either way, if they win as expected, they would only meet in the Elite 8 anyway.
To me the most notable difference between RPI and brackets is Notre Dame. They are a 3 seed here, despite an RPI rank of only 28. Personally, I think the bracket got this right and the RPI is wonky for some reason. UNC (#9 RPI) is only a 5 seed, but again I'd say the bracket better represents where they should be.
The Big 12 has 5 teams in the top 4 brackets, but I'm guessing they will have at least one fewer by selection Sunday. I haven't compared this yet to Lunardi, but I'm betting they won't be terribly different. Nice work.
This was a fun little read, especially since it was funny to see them say that the biggest possible win UConn has left to get is against SMU. So all those angry UConn guys around here, time to face the music. The exception being Mr. UConn/SMU.
Iowa is irrelevant huh? As these guys point out, it is likely Iowa gets in. That is certainly more relevant than UConn and their amazing schedule that is somehow insurmountable for such an Elite program as UConn is. The State of Iowa with three teams in this projection. Once again, it seems I always get the last laugh around here.
I got it with Maryland, I got it with Jim Harbaugh. I am getting it right now with talk shifting to a six team college playoff vs eight teams. The higher ups had their discussions about eight when ESPN was putting it in their face 24/7 but they don't like the high probability of conference divisional match ups being replayed in the national playoff.
Now it is starting to play out that all those rabid angry posts from UConn guys towards me about Iowa could end up biting them in the ass this season in March Madness. You guys better pray for that ACC invite when the Big Plan finally takes shape. I don't think this season is an anomaly for UConn. Your competitive schedule has been reduced.

Northwestern 66, Iowa 61. Karma is quite the lady.
I would say Iowa not making the tournament is an anomaly, but given the Hawkeyes' tournament appearances in the last 20 years...it's just the norm for Iowa basketball.

Perhaps we'll meet in the NIT.
Yeah, what can I say? For whatever reason, NW is a constant and consistant thorn in our side, whether it be basketball or football. If there was one school in the conference that honestly I just don't like when it comes to sports it is Northwestern.
