New Arena Con post
Maybe I just enjoy Lawson but what would we get with the new arena. I am watching our conference rivals in big quiet half filled arenas that are all the same. Lawson is unique most of the old arenas are gone. We have a scoreboard that is nice and made for the arena. No one is talking about how small it is. The opposite is happening our opponents are saying that Lawson is different and louder than their arenas and watching them Lawson is louder.
Keep it you keep the game day experience.
Tear it down and build off campus will cost WMU a lot of money and hurt the good thing. This plan will hurt hockey and students with higher tuition.

I'd rather see them gut lawson and fully renovate it. Tear some walls down, replace as much as they can, but keep the arena.

Agreed add some seats but too many would hurt the game experience

I would prefer this to building a downtown arena. I don't get the NCHC package, so the only games I've seen this year have been the games on CBSSN (and the game at Notre Dame on NBCSN). It's awesome seeing how great the environment is at Lawson on TV, especially the Lunatics. I'm of the opinion that our student attendance would decline if we were playing downtown as opposed to playing on campus. This is probably the main reason I'd prefer a renovation of Lawson.

I think I read that Friday's game was a sellout, but it still appeared there were quite a few open seats (not including the student section, which was packed). It's good for the university's bottom line if we're selling out, but it sure would be nice to see more of those seats filled. Renovating Lawson or building a new arena, I don't feel like we need many more seats. Notre Dame and Miami are probably good examples - new hockey facilities that seat a few thousand people.

According to the coach at the last Chalk Talk, a new arena, adjacent to and connected to Lawson, is coming.

RE: New Arena Con post
There isn't going to be a new arena... nor are they financing major renovations. Unless someone swoops in with $35 million it's not going to happen. The university won't be ponying up for any of it either.

He can tell everyone until he's blue in the face, but there's no truth behind it. Ask anyone over there other than him and their answers are either "we're always exploring ways to improve our facilities" or flat out "no"

We can't sell out our current building... why on Earth would we expand it?
