Coach Rock Picks Up 300th Win Sunday
Yesterday's 5-2 win over Central Arkansas yesterday leaves the record at 2-1 so far. The 4 previous 30+ win seasons weren't bad, but I have a feeling this could be a special year.

30 win seasons mean nothing... Coach Rock needs to pickup a NCAA tournament bid.... time is running out on him. In order to make it to the tournament he needs a minimum of 38 to 39 wins...

I like Coach Rock and the stability he brings to the program but we need to get to the NCAA's. Just from time to time, you know. I know the Tigers don't have a grand tradition in baseball but a little success would go a long way.

I would like to know who you think we could hire that would do a better job than Rock, what makes you sure he would do better and specifically what he would do differently. Thanks, in advance.

PS - In my opinion, he is an excellent coach and we are damned lucky to have him (even though he screwed the pooch with those G@%*!&*d sky blue shirts).

Look, I like Rock personally, but he has proved that he can't recruit the higher level players it takes to consistently get into the NCAA tournament. I have been totally shocked that Rock coming from M-State, $EC country that he would have been able to recruit a higher level player. There are several up and coming college coaches and assistants in the southeast that are hungry and can recruit.

The next step for the baseball program is recruit, recruit, recruit, recruit higher level players. It's not about coaching, facilities (we're there now), strength of schedule(good) or conference (good conf) I believe the baseball program under Rock is complacent and is on cruise control until Bowen decides he wants a change. Listen some coaches "have it" and can recruit, have a vision and pitch the program (sell the program). He's proven he can't do this with the higher level players.

I'm sure there are, but I'm sceptical that they can recruit to Memphis significantly better than Rock. Over the radio, he comes across as very intelligent, knowledgeable and articulate and leaves no doubt in my mind that he has a vision and a plan.

Without doubt, recruiting is vital. However, you seem to overlook the fact that we are surrounded by SEC baseball powerhouses who not only have much larger stadiums with big crowds, but can now tell prospects that they will playing regularly on the SEC Network. Schoenrock deserves credit for an amazingly good record against those schools and last Spring we came within a single game of playing for the championship of the AAC (which, as you say, is tough). If our fans would come out and fill our small stadium, recruiting would improve. I am confident that Bowen knows how lucky we are to have Coach Rock and I know that our players love and respect him.
