Forget the name, I'd glady take somebody who could score like Knowles.

I really think it's funny that shake went to SMU. I heard from a local reporter that he really wanted to go to Indiana but his mom wanted him to stay close to home. Larry Brown convinced him that he could use his NBA connections to help Shake towards his supposed dream of being a front office guy in the NBA.

I'm sure if Larry still had many friends in the NBA he would be coaching there. And, by the time Shake is old enough to really pursue that avenue Brown will probably be long gone.

Just a bit of funny logic to me.

I'd rather have him at SMU than Indiana; and I think he'll play on a better team there.
Indiana was great under Bobby Knight though.

Larry will probably be gone before Shake even graduates, but I guess with Jank the head coach in waiting that did not matter. He also visited OU, which is even closer to home, a greater opportunity for his mother to watch him play in person and a chance for him to compete against the some of the best talent in the country. His situation does not make sense, but to each his own.

Where is Larry going to go? SMU basketball reminds me a lot of Rice baseball, in that you have 2 legendary coaches in their 70s, that can't imagine life itself without coaching.

Who, oh why, would either of them give up the jobs they love now? Keep in mind, they aren't your typical retire to the beach types. Not to mention his kids will be SMU grads.

Unless you're suggesting there's another basketball team that's in the market for a 70-something coach.

Besides, Larry Brown has A TON of cred with the young crowd, who want to play for a coach with Allen Iverson among his pupils.

It seems to me to be a stable situation, that is very attractive to recruits. He couldn't have gained the signature of a recruit like Mudiay otherwise (no matter what EM eventually decided). My point being that Shake isn't his first prized recruit. He's one in a steady stream.

He can play against some of the best talent in the country in the AAC (home of the reigning national champions).

That's quite a sunshine and rainbows viewpoint you have there. I doubt Brown's health will allow him to coach very much longer. The guy is no spring chicken. Coaching is extremely stressful and he already had a reputation for being incredibly tight before SMU. I say he has a major health issue within the next 3-5 years.

And, even if his health doesn't get him, I feel like the NCAA is onto some of his sketch-tastic recruiting tactics.

RE: Chicken Knowles!!!
I don't know what the fuss is about. A strong SMU only helps Tulsa.

I'll argue that SMU raised the bar for Tulsa's administration to bring in a coach like Frank Haith. Furthermore, the attractiveness of the Tulsa job to Haith was definitely reflected in what Brown was doing down at SMU. I know it had an impact at Houston with the Sampson hire.
