I've heard college coaches say the slowest they'd look at for a center fielder is 7.2 and that's if he gets great reads/jumps off the bat. Jameis played right field, speed is important but you don't need to be a sub-7 guy. All useless of course considering he's a pocket passer (same for Carden).

ECU has an outfielder commit who has ran a 6.2. He will probably go pro though I would think.

Not many people can run sub-5.0 second 40 yard dashes, much less those which weigh 200lb's+. It's faster than you'd think, Arian Foster ran a 4.7, which would put you ~3 yards behind him. Anyone here think that after 37 yards of sprinting they'd be more than two steps behind him raise your hand.

If I cared enough I would go get the basketball highlights. Heck, I might throw Tulane in there too.

Who cares, we hit the tre when it counted on the grid iron.

Who cares we didn't allow ourselves to be emasculated by a mediocre VT

5th-UFA. Really depends if a team is looking for the intangibles, or a powerful arm

I would catch him but he would drag me the remaining 60 yards to the endzone. 03-lmfao

Being a Jets fans I've seen Brooks Bollinger, Kliff Kingsbury (Yep, that one), Matt Simms, Glenn Foley, Rick Mirer, Kevin O'Connell, Chad Pennington playing with a RE-torn rotator cuff and 40+ year old Vinny Testaverde playing QB.

Shane can and will make the league lol

Bortles ran a 4.93. It's fast enough to get yards when you need them although Bortles is a lot bigger than Carden

In a world where multiple teams are pursuing Josh McCown I think it's pretty clear that anybody has a shot at starting in the NFL. Maybe the stars have to align just right but the chance is there.

I think quickness, elusiveness and strength seem to be more important for big, strong QB's to break tackles, avoid the rush and gain some yardage where needed.

Obviously physical/test drill stats are just one aspect in regards to scouting QB's (or any position), bottom line...good performers (and busts) are found up and down the spectrum of rankings.

Bortles and Winston played in college systems that would be more closely called "NFL Type Offenses" vs what ECU ran most of the time.

Here's a quick shot at stats from the NFL Combine for these 3 players:

Shane Carden
Grade: 5.1
Height 6' 2"
Weight: 218 lbs
40 yd: 4.94
Vertical Jump: 29.5 inches
Broad Jump: 104 inches
3 cone drill: 7.17 secs
20 yd shuttle: 4.45 secs

Blake Bortles
Grade: 6.4
Height: 6' 5"
Weight: 232 lbs
40 yd: 4.93
Vertical Jump: 32.5 inches (top QB performer)
Broad Jump: 115 inches (top QB performer)
3 cone drill: 7.08 secs
20 yd shuttle: 4.21 secs

Jameis Winston
Grade: 6.52
Height: 6' 4"
Weight: 231 lbs
40 yd: 4.97
Vertical Jump: 28.5 inches
Broad Jump: 103 inches
3 cone drill: 7.16 secs
20 yd shuttle: 4.36 secs

40 yard time for a QB got it's own thread? Good luck to Carden.
