I wonder how any of the questions might have been different if UAB were playing next year.

Thoughts?

Probably still lose to Marshall. We'd have had to play in Huntington, and I've never seen a more Jeckyll and Hyde team at home and away than the Herd.

UAB would be top two preseason in the WEST this year.

Rice vs Tech has been an interesting series because it's rarely a close game....

37-20, Rice in Houston
49-14, Rice in Ruston
51-14, Tech in Houston
56-37, Tech in Ruston
52-14, Rice in Houston
76-31, Tech in Ruston

There was a game in 2001 that was 41-38, but Tech blew Rice out in the 1st half 31-3 and Rice came back and blew Tech out in the 2nd half 35-7. 03-lmfao

Rice vs Tech has been an interesting series because it's rarely a close game....
14-0, Rice in Houston
41-38, Tech in Ruston
37-20, Rice in Houston
49-14, Rice in Ruston
51-14, Tech in Houston
56-37, Tech in Ruston
52-14, Rice in Houston
76-31, Tech in Ruston

There was a game in 2001 that was 41-38, but Tech blew Rice out in the 1st half 31-3 and Rice came back and blew Tech out in the 2nd half 35-7. 03-lmfao

14-0, Rice in Houston (1965)
41-38, Tech in Ruston (2001)
37-20, Rice in Houston (2002)
49-14, Rice in Ruston (2003)
51-14, Tech in Houston (2004)
56-37, Tech in Ruston (2012)
52-14, Rice in Houston (2013)
76-31, Tech in Ruston (2014)

So the series is tied 4-4 with the average score being 47 (Winner) - 21 (Loser).

La Tech has scored the most points as a winner (76 pts - 2014).
Rice has scored the most points as a loser (38 pts - 2001).

LaTech has scored an aggregate of 272 pts for an average of 34 pts/game.
Rice has scored an aggregate of 272 pts for an average of 34 pts/game.

Yeah, I'd say that this is pretty much a rivalry game. Interesting that both Rice and LaTech have each won as visitors. But the recent past seems to indicate that the Home team wins...and wins big.

Another interesting tidbit. Over since 2012, Rice is 2-3 against teams with bulldogs as mascots:
2012 LaTech (Loss)
2013 LaTech (Win)
2013 MissState (Loss)
2014 LaTech (Loss)
2014 Fresno State (Win)

*Post has been edited to reflect the full series (Thanks pilot172000). Wow, talk about an even series. Both teams have scored 272 pts against each other.

I remember it well. Rice came all the way back to tie it, but missed a last second field goal to win it. Louisiana Tech won in OT. We would have gone 8-4 and played in WAC title game. It's still my most heartbreaking loss as an Owl fan. I was crushed and it isn't funny

It was the most bizarre game I've ever attended! First time I ever saw the MOB too. (loved it). Tech did go on to win the WAC, but got blown out by Clemson in the Humanitarian Bowl.

I expect the series to remain contentious as both teams have been near the top of CUSA WEST the last two years and could remain that way for a while.

I remember that. Our bowl tie-ins (2) were awful in the WAC. I couldn't believe Louisiana Tech was asked to go all the way to Idaho to play a bowl game. Sad. Rice had back-to-back 7-4 seasons and couldn't even sniff a bowl game. We all knew a bowl game was an impossibility unless we won the conference. Conferences like that disappear.

The WAC didn't have a conference championship game then. If I remember correctly we beat Boise at home the next week and beat Tulsa at there place to win the WAC out right in our final game. Fresno was our only conference loss and they were ranked and had David Carr as the starting QB.

The WAC was a very talented conference and a lot of good football teams missed bowl games due to poor set up. Now 6-6 teams from lesser conferences go to bolw games all the time. Heck we went 7-4 one year with a stud RB and didn't get a bowl invite.
