I guess not a surprise since we were playing an FIU team that was winless in conference play (and without a head coach since their long-time coach resigned a few weeks ago). But it was nice to see us score some points and cruise to an easy win.

One interesting person in the stands who was there for the whole game pretty much was Arsalan Kazemi.

Surprising to see Kazemi in the stands. I guess he knows some people on the team?

Here's a link to an interesting article published a month ago about Arsalan's experiences playing pro ball in China, and the writer's hope that the 76ers will activate the all-rebound/no-shot player next season.

He has a Rice degree and played at Rice for 3 seasons, is it really that surprising?

A bit.

First, I didn't even know he was back in the states, let alone Houston. So there is an initial surprise in him being able to attend a game.

And I know that his main beef was not with Rice, but a former employee, but I remember that he walked at Oregon (ceremoniously, not academically).

It's not like I am completely flabbergasted by the sighting, but a bit surprised.

Nice to see a solid win, but the women are still tied with North Texas for 12th in the conference standings and in danger of not making the conference tournament. Quite a contrast compared to the men's team.

Rice and North Texas are travel partners, so they have basically the same remaining schedule. I guess it will be exciting to see which team steps up to claim the remaining spot in the tournament.

UNT beat Florida Atlantic last night so that pretty much puts the pressure on the women to beat them on Saturday. Right now Rice holds the tie-breaker over UNT with a better conference win (UTSA vs. Marshall) but that's pretty flexible based on the closeness of the standings. UNT won't lose to FIU Saturday - the FIU team plays zero defense.

I wonder if he'd elect to retire.

Interesting. I'm surprised he's even in the country (though I believe he still has the NBA as a goal).

Oddly, I thought that comment was about Kazemi.

Women lost to FAU and are now one game back in the race against North Texas for the last tournament spot. Since Rice and North Texas have identical remaining schedules, it will be an uphill battle.
