I think I had UC as a 9 seed because of the Kirkland injury. If you looked at the overall resume they compared pretty favorably to the 7 seeds (I dropped them two lines because of injury). Committee somehow didn't have them in the field. That year, Air Force and Utah State both made it, they are still the two worst at large teams by overall body of work. Absolutely ridiculous that UC wasn't in.

I also believe that was before the committee had rules dealing with conferences earning more than 8 bids. That left an artificial cap at 8 team due to bracket rules. UC would have been team number nine from the Big East. As conferences got bigger due to expansion the rules changed, hence UC playing UConn in the round of the 32.

The major factor helping this season's Bearcats is non-conference SOS. It will end up somewhere in the 25; however, UC is hanging on by a thread at this point. The UC-Tulsa game could very well be for an-large bid. Cats have to go 4-0 to feel same. 3-1 Puts UC at the whim of the committee if the conference tournament results go the wrong way. I would feel more comfortable at 3-1, if that earned UC 3rd place in the league. For example if Temple lost to ECU and UConn then that would put them at 11-7 and bump their RPI into the mid 50's. A Cincinnati team at 12-6 would go into the conference tournament with an RPI in the low 40's. The American might be a 4 bid league but this conference is ranked below the A-10 and right above the WCC, Missouri Valley, MAC, and Mountain West. I feel confident that three will get in but everything has break right for four or more.

Not pretty, Lunardi has us as last team to get in before play-in game. That means we're 5 teams from being out altogether. Lose tomorrow and my bet is we are on the outside looking in. Still have to go 2-1 in remaining 3 in my opinion and avoid bad loss in conference tourney. Palm is much more positive.

According to bracket matrix, we are the first 10 seed (37 on the S-Curve) with 10 teams between us and the cut line. There will inevitably be a few bid thiefs, so we probably aren't quite that safe. Also, out of the 99 brackets they track, 7 don't have us in at all. But I think all of the reputable ones (at least that I've looked at) do.

Tomorrow is definitely a big game. We are 6.5 point favorites. Hopefully it isn't even that close.

Lunardi is coming around. I thought some of the projections after the X game were silly. Even with a win today I think we will be moving closer to the cut line by the end of the weekend.

2-1 with a 1st round loss in the conference tourney will likely give us an extra home game.

Just keep winning and we are golden....it's that simple.

And if we can't just keep winning with the teams on our schedule, (Tulane, Tulsa, Memphis, AAC tourney) then we don't deserve a spot in the big dance anyway.

Starting today 52 in RPI. Road win against a crappy team will bump it a spot or 3.

I do hate the rpi:

Team1. rpi 34 SOS 64 OOC sos 46 record 20-9

Team 2. rpi 50 SOS 67 OOC sos 22 record 20-9

Makes no sense to be this big of a difference.

Just don't worry about the actual RPI ranking. It's the least important part of the RPI breakdown (Many committee members say they don't even look at it). Nonconference SOS and top 50 record are so much more important.

Even the extra .4 bump from winning on the road did not offset playing such a crappy team.

It is what it is. And it's still going to get Cincy into the Tourney. All the whiners and belly achers might considering removing theirs from their arse.

Despite this conference, if we just keep winning, we are in.

I'm not sure if we suck or not. This team is so up and down. We suck at times that's for sure. But we COULD beat a team or two in the ncaa too...IF we get there.

Up next, Tulsa.

That Tulsa game could be a play in. Starting to think that is a must win now.

Lunardi only has 3 AAC teams in right now. Tulsa is in his first 4 out. Temple and UC are the last 2 teams with byes.

It's probably also a must win for Tulsa which isn't good for us. They will be fighting for their lives as well.

They still have a road game at SMU so they have a chance to pick up a good resume win. UC is done with those opportunities.
