Ranking the ACC's FB/MBB Coaching Tandems (LINK)
Quote:Step back five years and the list of football-basketball coaching tandems in the ACC looks pretty crazy.

That Mike Krzyzewski is the basketball representative at Duke probably makes sense, but what about the Blue Devils having a successful football coach?

Now, that’s weird.

And what about the No. 2 and No. 3 teams on our list: Louisville and Notre Dame were hardly a glimmer in the eye of the ACC several years ago. Notre Dame, of course, isn’t a full member, but we’ve included the Irish here since men’s basketball is an ACC team and the football team by contract plays its fair share of ACC schools.

Agree, Notre Dame shouldn't be on the list.

Even so...I would put Florida State above Notre Dame. I think there is a much bigger gap between Jimbo Fisher and Brian Kelly than there is between Mike Brey and Leonard Hamilton.

Has Notre Dame had more basketball success? Sure. But Mike Brey still has all of one Sweet Sixteen appearances. Hamilton (over more years) has two Sweet 16s, at two different schools, a Big East title and an ACC title. They are the third winningest team in the ACC over a decade or so.

If you are going to give credit for Petrino's time at Arkansas, you have to credit Hamilton for what he did at Miami. If you are going to credit Cutcliff at Duke football being "pretty good" because of the Duke football situation, you have to credit Hamilton for what he did coming into two horrible basketball programs with the worst basketball support in their conferences.

Overall it appears that the ACC is in as good of a position, coach-wise, as it has been at any time since the late 90's.

I agree, UNC and VT are too high. Fedora and Peterson haven't done anything. Virginia should be higher.
