Now if they were to move a Jack Pirtles up there then it's on.

Are you going to do the "chiggen dance" tonight or let the fat people win again?

I didn't see the Checking dance last night.

What's up with that?

Little Rock did well enough to warrant a second location. Word I've read is Austin is pretty good, but service isn't like the downtown Memphis one. I'll go to bat for downtown as long as the streak of excellence in my experience persists.

The one downtown was the 1st franchise. (Well, not technically. Gus used to call it the "Grave Recipes" and wouldn't even give it to his sons but finally let the sons in on it and eventually one of the sons opened one in dyersburg, tn that didn't last too long.)

But the one downtown is the 1st and their food was not good UNTIL the 2nd fire - the family didn't have anything to do while the shack was being rebuilt so some of them went down and gave some tips.

Fun fact: the one on mendenhall is owned by the ex-hubby of the one downtown.

Another fun fact. He is the dumba5s driving the boat in this infamous internet clip...

I regret that I never ate there. I always drove to Mason on Sundays and Bozo's wasn't open on Sundays.

That's for sure! I hear the original was awesome. I know I'm gonna get crucified for this, but I find it dry and overcooked. I really don't get it. Also everybody doesn't go for spicy. They should offer an alternative.

Flame away!

I totally agree. Add two, me and my BF. Even in Mason, I did not find it special. I like lighter, moister chicken, like Pirtle's. Some of the best chicken ever was the store-made chicken at Krystal years ago.

And spiciness is relative.

Yes, that one was horrible. As was the service.

When did Bozo's close? 04-jawdrop I must say that I have been going to Braden Station more often lately, and I haven't thought that Bozo's had good bbq in years. It was hard to get past all the UT orange in there, too.

Different strokes for different folks. Some folks don't like cheeseburgers either. Or BBQ. Or chocolate.

FYI, Bozo's is closed on Sundays and Mondays, but is open for business all other days. I think the poster was referring to the fact that they close on Sundays. When old Mrs. Williams was on her death bed, she made the family promise two things: that they would stop selling beer and that they would close on Sunday.

They are a great restaurant again, after having a down period under the previous ownership. Their heritage traces to 1923 when Bozo Williams opened his restaurant. You can look at all the BBQ places in Memphis, and none have this much history.

Incorrect. Leonard's opened in 1922.

Well, then I stand corrected. Thanks for the info. Man, that is the second mistake I have made in the last 20 or 30 years.

I did talk to the guy who owns Leonard's at a Tiger event he catered in the last few years. I was telling him that I lived near Bozo's and he said that at one point, Leonard's and Bozo's were considering a joint venture. It never happened, but I thought that was very interesting. I never had heard that Leonard's was that old, though.
